biz:

Have also been interested in installing temp gauge.

Found this at the CVO forum, and looks like another option for the sender. Elbow turns it toward the right frame rail as Dalton recommends.

Default RE: Oil temp gauge install question....????

Thank you everyone.....I have decided to install the oil temperature gauge on the right side of the fairing in the location where the volt gauge is now. I will move the volt gauge to the ambient temp gauge location. I will use a bit of the Loctite 565 I think it is....sort of a liquid Teflon sealant, but like most said I don't think it will be a issue. As far as the wiring goes.....I will run the sender and ground wires up from the sending unit, grounding the black on the ground lug under the front part of the seat, and then run the "SIG" wire either up under the tank or up along the clutch cable. As for the wiring inside the fairing, once I get in there I am quite sure I will see everything much more clearly. Like I said I will also be installing the new JBL speakers, so once I have the stock HD units out, I am sure I will have more than enough room to do the gauge install, and then put the JBL's in place last.

Again....thanks to everyone. That is exactly what I am talking about when I say this place has a wealth of knowledge, and just as important the people willing to share it! That is what makes this place so fantastic!

Same size for your '07. It's Napa #3220 x 6 x 2 (1/8F-3/8M). Someone mentioned Teflon tape, and you can use it for the HD gauge since it uses a remote ground (wire connected to frame), but the McEwan gauge sold at Wally's Cycle World is grounded at the fitting. In the latter case you shouldn't use any tape or other sealant, as it might affect the ground to the sender.

Here's a wiring diagram for your '07:

I just purchased a bushing from plumbing supply its 3/8 M NPT to 1/8 F NPT the bushing is 1in long now my question the sending unit only goes in 1/2 way before it starts getting tight is this correct or did you use a longer bushing..

You should be good to go. NPT threads are tapered so they will tighten as the diameter increases.
