Default RE: Oil used during break-in?

ORIGINAL: dawg

I use dino 20/50 to break in a build. Change it out at 100 and then again at 500 and then at 1000 I go back to synthetic and geta dyno.
Machined (new) parts, although feeling and looking incredibly smooth, in fact are not. The lathe work leaves ridges that is worn away during the break in period. This, as well as things being a little tight, results in heat. I agree that it is a good idea to change the oil on a new engine at least at the 1000 milestone, and as said above, probably sooner. The wearing in (lapping) results in minute metal particles being circulated in the lubricant ......not good for long engine life.... how an engine is broken in can determine how long it lasts. Oil shear is a problem ..(breakdown due to heat).I'd gowith Synthetic (on 96)solely because of its resistance to this problem. IMO the primary and transmission (lubricants)are no-where near as critical as the crankcase....(dragging clutch& clunking shifts notwithstanding)
