Just got my new windshield and tinted cover lenses for my spotlights today. No questions on the windshield (I just need to remember not to over tighten) but I had a question on the spotlight armor install. The instructions dont really go into how to put them on your bike, I assume these gounder the trim ring held by the one screw underneath. But the lenses are maybe 2-3 mms thick so my question is if you install under the trim ring, dont they leave a 2-3 mm gap where the trim ring meets the light housing? Anybody ever put these on before? I ordered the yellow spot lenses so my bike might be a little more visible to the average left turning haggamier. Thanks in advance.
No, they go on top of the lenses. I have been contemplating trying a set also, but haven't yet. I guess I can wait for feedback and pics from IamZardoz
They should have come with 8 clear velcro like dots with gum on both sides. Just put 4 on the light and the other mate on the armor. Give them a solid day for th gum to set up before you ride or try to pull them off. After that -- no problem.
I had a yellow pair on my Heritage for about 6 months. They mount directly to the lense of the spotlamp with the 3m Velcro dots that should have come with the kit. (4) dots per lense cover. They worked well and really made the bike stand-out both day and night. Ended up loosing one after showing them to another rider at a rally and not getting one back on securely. Went with Hella 55W yellow star bulbs to replace the stock 15W white halogens. They are a little less yellow but are still different enough to stand out. Links below:
Appreciate the feedback. Well, after installing my new tinted windshieldand installing the chrome strip that goes between the fairing and the windshield (stock size windshield, ice blue tint, looks cool) I started screwing around with those yellow spotlight covers. I have decided, well, they look like crap (so Im not going to put them on). I went looking in the Drag Specialties catalog and I can get yellow sealed beam replacement spotlights so I think Im going to go that route. I dont want to just change the bulb cause I think the yellow lenses will look pretty nice even when not in use.
