Kern -
If you haven't dealt with Bart before, you owe it to yourself to contact him. Great guy and can probably get you the full meal deal at a great price.
BTW - Your bike will look completely sick dropped. I can't wait to see it.
Bart is a great guy. I have got some really good deals on stuff from him.

I can't wait to see it lowered as well. By the way, the suspension is only about 1/10th of what is being done to it this winter. [8D]
Nice cliffhanger. You must be one of those out of work TV writers....

Can't wait to see what you're doing.

Have you looked at the Arnott air ride system?

I started looking at it today. What all did you order? Your shocks look different than the kit. What do you think so far? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

First I bought my Arnott from Bart. One of the best dealers to deal with. My shocks look different because I got one of the first sets before the price change. I installed the shocks and put the bike on the ground and found out the tire hits the fender. Sent the shocks back to Arnott and they’re making me a set for my 18” wheel and 150 tire. My bike lowered all the way on the fender is 10” center to center mount. Talking with Adam at Arnott where going to have the shock collapsed at 10.5” ride height at 12”. The shocks in the kit advertised are 9.5” collapsed and 12 extended. So any one running a 18” wheel make sure you check for tire clearance if you lower your bike. Remember if you lose the vent valve, cut a hose the rear tire can hit the fender. I have not rode the bike yet but can tell you this kit is top shelf. The compressor mounts under the battery and the lines are pre cut with sheathing. The end connectors are o-ringed. Arnott’s been in the air ride system with the auto market for some time now.

Kern,
I have been looking at air suspension kits too and of all the kits I have investigated, I am leaning toward the "new" Arnott systems. Going from memory, on my first cup of coffee [sm=insomnia.gif], it is built on a shock, it has adjustable dampening (not the QA1 system) and they will build it to any size you want and install bump stops where you want. The price for chrome and black is the same (I am sure you would want the black ), you get your choice of a handle bar mounted controller or toggle switch, etc. They have 3" of travel, 1.5" up and 1.5" down. Someone here on the forum has said that 9.5" puts you on the fender so I am thinking an 11.5" shock with bump stops at 10" would be a great all around shock.

Give Frank a call at Arnott.

RJ
RJ, you're saying they can build you any LENGTH of shock? Wow! I gotta call these guys. What do you mean about adjustable dampening? How do you adjust it? Are you talking about the $999 shocks, or the $698 shocks? This system is sounding better all the time.
Jerry
Jerry,
I talked to Frankat Arnott a few weeks ago.....I also talked to AirFX, Tricky, Platinum. I heard a rumor that Arnott hada "newer" system that is not on their website or ebay. Its true. They arenow offering an air systemthathas 11 way adjustable rebound dampening (not the old QA1 system) which is accomplished with a small adjuster (****) on each shock. You cannot adjust the rebound on the fly like you could on a Platinum system. Yes,Arnott will build you ashock at yourdesired length and place bump stops per your preference for no extra charge. This particular set-up is $999 and comes ineither black or chrome. You can get it with a three way toggle switch, a handle bar mounted controller (I have not seen it) or a handle bar mounted membrane controller for an additional $40 (I willask Frank for pics of the controller options....considering none of this is on their website). They offer a 30 day money back guarantee and a 5 year warranty. They are a big name in the air suspension industry and do their own R&D on shop bikes.

I am not selling or promoting Arnott just passing on what I was told. I know Bart likes the Arnott stuff and from what I can tell, it looks like a contender.

Adios,
RJ
Thanks for the info, RJ! Boy, that does seem like the setup to get. I gotta start saving money! This sounds like the cure for my oversize rear tire. I have a 180/70 tire and it's a larger diameter tire than stock, so now my tire hits the fender if I lower the bike at all. Had to put the stock 13" shocks back on. Now if I can request a 10-13" shock, I'm all set. You've made my day!
Jerry

I have been talking with frank at arnott and he has been great. I will be going with the new Aldan shocks. They are 11-way dampening too (like Rocket Jocket said). I am going with the 13" shock, fully compressed it will be 10", which should be great. The 12" alden will be 8.5" compressed which is way too much.

I must have misunderstood.... I thought Franksaid the Aldans had 3" of travel, 1.5" up, 1.5" down. On a 12" shock they would be 13.5 fully aired up and 10.5 bottomed out.One of us isn't going to be happy!!!! I will check with Frank again.

Update, here is a response from Arnott...

Scott,
I talked to Adam Arnott,he said he would be doing some r&d today,-on a 656 series-13" aldan shock, with 11 postion dampening adjustment, compression is 9.5",travel is 3.5". On the Bilstein 12",actual length is 11.8",compression is 8.30,travel is 3.5". We have done extensive testing on all oem combinations, using a larger,or taller tire changes the eqation. We can install ANY size of bump stop,as this is what we do with customizers all over the planet. Expect a one week build time from ordering for this option. I was on the forum, and noticed a reference to another company using kevlar-
This material,is great for automotive belts-terrible for airsprings. The material,by design,is not intended to"bend",and will not last through multiple duty cycles. This is why we,as well as the major automotive manufacturers,-do not use this in their products.A few DID,at one time, but no longer do.Ford,GM,Mercedes,do not-for the reasons stated above, but it may be that that company could only purchase though Gates
I will send pics of the Handlebar mounted controllers later today, please feel free to share any of this info with the forum.
And,as soon as Adam gets back to me,I will send you the info on the shock.
Thanks,
Frank Johnson

RJ, Have you checked your bike to see the center to center mount when the tire hits the fender? Adam Arnott asked me to check and my tire hits at 10”. I disconnected the shocks and lowered the bike until the tire hit the fender. My 18” rim and 150 tire is 1” taller then stock.

Mopar7,
I have not done that but planned to before I ordered. I am sure I will the same as you considering I have the same rear set-up.

Thanks,
RJ

i just installed a set of stock oem shocks that i sent to RON at phoenix customs, i found him on e bay. look on there for him under harley shocks. my project is not done so i have not tryed them yet. he can drop them from 1 to 2 1/2in and he installs bumpers and it does not hit your factory wiring or fender . if you want 1 1/4 in, and dont like it, you send them back and he will swap them out for what ever fits you . its around $200.00. im solo i whet 1 3/4 in they look kool as hell.
