Thank you! That is what I was hoping to hear. My buddy has an '05 Rk, and he swears he put the SE's on and did the stage 1, but I think he is full of it, or they took his money, cuz he aint got the take offs, and they do not say SE any where on them. His A/C looks right though, but his is quiet, too quiet.

Apparently you have a lot to learn. Back then there were 2 types of SE mufflers, SE touring and SE performance. If you mistrust people so much, why even venture outside your house?

I had the SE Street Performance Touring Mufflers (#64985-07) on my '07 Road King and really liked them. As others have said, they had a ddeper tone - throatier - and were very satisfactory. I matched them with the HD Stage 1 Download and they performed very well with no popping on decel. I didn't notice that the download was running lean at all, and the plugs were a nice tan color. It's a good combo, but the performance gains were not as extreme as with the V&H setup I had earlier (Oval Slip-Ons and FuelPak). But I was looking for only a modest increase in sound, and the SE's were just right - authoritative without being loud, and only barely audible on the expressway. The V&H Oval Slip-Ons were tiring during a long trip - too much sound. But they sure sounded good around town!

I put them on my '07 Ultra. Not alot louder than stock, just deeper and throatier, and I really like the way they sound rolling off the throttle. I wanted a little louder than stock, but not real loud, and these are pretty close to exactly what I was looking for.

His A/C looks right though, but his is quiet, too quiet. I heard a stock 08 96 big twin at the dealer, and it did not sound all that bad. Every one says they do not sound "much" louder, but that is what I was looking for. They are indeed, louder...

Now has anyone had any issues with the ECM download running too lean? poping?

Should I get a fuel pak?

Thanx,

Ron
First off. NICE bike. I have the same color scheme and bike. I put a set of Rush w/ 2' baffles and kept everything else stock. A little popping but nothing major. I read about popping being caused sometimes, from not letting off the gas all the way. I have noticed this. I'm Waiting on v/h fuel pak and SEAC. Feels like my bike needs to breathe more plus then I'll have to add more fuel. I chose the FP as I want to do it myself. BTW, the 2' baffles are not super loud if your just riding easy but are louder when ya 'get on it'. They do have a deep sound over from what I've heard outta the SE. Just my opinion. Hope to see ya out there!

I elected to keep my bike OEM and went with the SE Touring Mufflers. The 4 inch cans really look nice and they are a little louder and throatier than stock, but notobnoxious and I'm pleased with my choice. I also went with theSE air filter and SERT tokeep the engine cooler. Added 5 HP and 5 lbsof torque over stock with this set up. I wasn't concerned as much with adding performance as I was with changing the lean/hot condition of the engine. Added a free breathing exhaust, free breathing air filter and the SERThas lowered the engine temps andit works for me.Not planning on any other engine mods.

I have the SE Performance mufflers on my '02 RK along with the Stage 1 and can't say that they are overly loud at all. The SE11's I put on my previous 883 Sportster were, in my opinion, louder than what are on my RK.

Thanx everyone! I was confident with my decision, but was looking for your experiance to confirm. I went with the ecm download, but if I get any popping, I will invest in the SERT, and have it DYNO'd.

crazybastid83, I am not sure where you are coming from. If I did not have a lot to learn, then I would not be asking questions, right? I only distrust the dealer because I get that "CYA" feeling when talking to them about mods and warrentee coverage. They push the SERT, and Rush combo hard, but when I said I spent the 1800 on the 7 yr, what happends when something goes wrong? there answer was "well, the dealership would stand behind you and fix it" yeah, right. It aint in writing! Secondly, when I had a leak issue with my 2007 Nightster, and the dealer would not stand behind me, I called HD mo. co., and the first question out of there mouths when I got irate was "what mods have you done?"

So I may have a lot to learn about OLD parts that used to be available, but it sounds like if you trust HD to get your back you may have a thing or two to learn from this post!

END OF RANT!

Thanx again everyone!

Ron

A friend of mine got a set of the new screamin eagle slip on's and they were not much louder than stock. He went back to the dealer and they gave him another set of pipes with the part number ending in an A I think? These pipes are much louder than the first set that the dealership had sold him. Looks like the screamin eagle changed something a little bit to get more sound. Not sure if this helps at all, but you may want to ask your dealer if there are 2 screamin eagle touring slip ons that they are selling.

I have a solution for those wondering about whether or not they will like the SE Street Performance Touring Mufflers. There is a thread here that has pics of the internal baffles. The baffles are not a straight through design. They have a tube that is crimped and cut so that the airflow is directed to the oitside of the baffle tube and has to go through holes in the baffle in order to exit the muffler. As it turns out, the crimp in the baffle can be easily opened up by driving a broom handle through the muffler from the tail end if the mufflers are not loud enough for you. Just make sure you have the mufflers off the bike so that when (not if) the broom handle get's stuck, you can drive it out from the inlet side.

I just did this little mod this weekend. It made the mufflers bark just enough more that it turns the sound output from a 4 - 5 unmodified to about a 6.5 after the mod. It still doesn't pop at all.

I was considering getting different mufflers in order to increase the sound levels and thought I'd do this little mod first. It's loud enough now that I don't want it any louder.

I did a set of those Eagles last year on my 07' FLHR with a stage 1 air. There is a very restricted baffle plate in those Eagles that can be accessed by drilling out the 3 rivets. I messed around with drilling the plates bigger and it definitely made a big difference in sound over those stock Eagles. I took the Eaglesoff and sold them 2 weeks later and went with the Vance & Hines "Big Shots" true dual. They were exactly what I was looking for. Although my dealer told me that I had voided my warranty[:@]
We just traded the 07' off for a 08' Street Glide we put on quite a few miles on the King last year. Our Glide came with the Screaming Eagles again already on the bike. These seem louder and throatier than my first set but I still want to get my Big Shots back on this bike. The warranty issue has raised some concerns with my wife & I but I really want that sound back on my bike. I think that it Will be worth the risk and I would hope that HD would need to prove that the pipe mod caused any engine issues. I had also gone with a V&H Fuel Pack which sure beat those costly dealer flashes. I removed all of those add ons before trading the King off
