Loaded the trailer up with 110 lbs. Trailer weighs 170 lbs, so total load 270
[sm=confused06.gif]
[sm=oopssign.gif] I reckon that adds up to 280! [sm=pcwhack.gif]

We don't normally haul eggs to the beach, but sometimes when coming home we will have some left. We pack a small 12 pack cooler with ice and leftovers from our refrigerator. Sometimes we may not go back for a couple of months, so we can't leave it in Refrigerator. My trailer has a cooler on the tougue, but I installed racks inside so that we could out luggage , chairs , cooler etc. inside. It was our first trip with the trailer and as they say, life is a learning experience. I built my own trailer, and it pulls great and made momma happy to have her stuff, it made me happy cause I had My bike....Bldr Go to this site for a build it yourself trailer. www.gadgetjq.com/trailer.htm

I have been pullinf trailers for over twenty years without a problem. you have to remember it is behind you when you stop; but it does not affect riding all that much if you are just carefull and slow down a little.
My first trailer was a homemade wooden box that had 8 inch wheels on it; was all right but the one I have now has has 12 in. wheels and pulls a lot better.
The nicest thing on atrailer is having a cooler with you all the time; you can stop anywhere for a break.

I thought about getting a pull along camper that has storage below. The only thing, does it take engine life off the bike or create any excess wear?

got mine late last year, but haven't used it for a trip yet. pulled it 5-600 mi to get a feel for the extra weight and figure out how to pack it for the right tounge weight. bought it used, and reconditioned it and painted it to match our ultra. pulls great on the hi-way. had it up to 80 just to see. no sway, or wagging. only time i really feel it is pulling away from a stop. also made a carryer for my receiver hitch to haul the cooler only, for those hot summer day rides

I thought about this also. Here are the conclusions I came to.

It is not going to put any extra wear on the suspension...if anything you will be carrying less weight in the bags and tourpak.

The entire engine/drive-train is under more of a load....250-400 lbs. Depending on how you ride, this may be immeasurable in the difference it makes, or it may shave 10% off the overall life of engine/clutch plates/drive belt/tires.

Again, depending on riding habits, it could shave up to 50% off the life of the brake pads.

It's gonna suck a bit more gas also.
