Sounds like you have my kind of luck, maybe a Monday morning bike, I don't know what to tell you except that sometimes a lemon comes out of the factory and I had a car once that was this way, I kept it and had one problem after the other, I finally traded it and lost money but I learned from that one, if somethings major wrong with a new product, avoid it and get another one. Just my two cents and I think Harley has a great product, but everyonce and a while----------even the best has a problem.
That Really Sucks as the old saying goes **** happens. That sounds like my kind of luck. I hope not though. my FLHRCI is suppose to be here the end of March & I hope something like this does not happen after waiting 2 1/2 months. Sorry about the bad luck. I hope it works out for you.
i would not get this bike. maybe there is not a good reason for me to feel that way, but i just would not get a bike that had problems from the word go. trust me, there are others exactly like it out there, and your dealer can get it for you for the same price, and in reasonable time. they may not want to, but if i am spendind 20k plus on a bike, it's going to be what I want, not whats easy to get.
swb,
I would not screw around with keeping this bike unless it was something MINOR with the engine (doesn't sound like it); I do a lot of work with historic cars, and the numbers matching is very important to value (same for bikes if you keep them long enough) - on the Harleys, the bike vin and the engine vin do correspond, and to pay this kind of money for a new bike, and having such a MAJOR repair done, should not be acceptable - I would hold out for another without problems; like someone said earlier, once you take it, it becomes your problem - that's not to say you may never have a problem with this bike down the road, it could turn out to be the best bike you've ever owned, but I personally would not take it, or any chances, for this amount of money - you're paying for & expecting a new bike, and have every right to get one from the factory complete and new.
Jim
You made the right decision and I hope you have many enjoy-able and trouble free miles with the new bike. The dealer did you right and hats off to them for it.[sm=smiley32.gif]
