Default Radio Replacement

I need to replace the radio in my 1986 FXRD. Original equipment/OEM radios are non-existent. I have tried the E-Bay route. The used one I bought there lasted 2 months then crashed. Does anyone here have info on this type of project or can you refer me to a shop/company that can help. I am under the impression that the new factory HD radios won't fit my fairing.

Thanks

You could try Biketronics they sell sony radios with a kit to use your factory hand controls. not sure if they have anything for your bike but I'm sure they could help answer some questions if needed.

DJ,

I'd try contacting some of the dealers like Chicago Harley or Surdyke that do internet sales. Also try some of the older dealerships like Gowanda Harley in Gowand NY who have been around for years. Hopefully you could find a parts guy with some connections who might know of a dealer with an OEM radio laying on a back shelf somewhere. I'd think any radio that would fit the RT up until 92 would fit your RD but not sure. I wouldn't waste my time with any dealership established in the last 10 years. BTW I am a big fan of the RT's and RD's.

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got an e-mail out to Biketonics. Contacing the older dealerships is a great idea. I'll try that next.

BTW a photo of my bike is posted in the photos thread if your interested Mark-n-Tx. I've loved these bagger FXRs since they came out. I actually sold my 96 FXD to buy the FXRD. Most think I'm crazy (including the wife), but they just don't get it.

Thanks again,

DJA
