I wouldn't consider swapping to a true HD fairing. LOT of work and parts. I added the Hoppe fairing to my 99 Road King. Also added a Dakota Digital tach, mounted above the radio. The radio/cd/mp3 work great. There is no speed that I can not turn the volume up to hear clearly.
I'm building a custom bagger and plan on going back to the detachable windshield on the Road King. I have my fairing painted cobalt blue (in/out). There is road rash on the left hand side of the fairing, about 2 1/2 round. The abrasion would easily be filled with a little resin. I mention this because I'll be selling it shortly. I paid 1300 for the fairing (cost aother 400 for paint, House of Kolor Cobalt over silver). The the tach was an extra 300. I'll be putting it on ebay shortly.
Anyone with the Deadcenter fairing have issues with the fiberglass fading through the paint? Dragonfly Concepts states that fiberglass fades through the paint after a while. I really want to get the Deadcenter fairing because of the lock, but Dragonfly has me worried about the durability of the products.

I have had my DCC fairing on a 2007 RK for about a year. I have never heard of that issue before. I did a lot of research and never heard anyone else reporting this issue. It is possible that Dragonflyis simply running down their competition. Go with the DCC fairing. I can tell you that it exceeded my expectations. Even their shipping container is first rate. I was expecting some minor paint rubs, etc. Not the first flaw on mine. Perfect paint match too!
Pricey but worth it. There is a way to get a 20% discount. Email if you are interested.
I guess I am one of the few who just does not like a fairing. I thought I would but I much prefer just the Road King windshield. The Dead Center is high in quality but I find I have it off more then I have it on so there is no since in it just sitting in the garage.
