When I got my PCIII a couple years ago, I downloaded the map for my bike from Dynojet which was exactly for the parts and year of my bike, stage 1 air cleaner and download, hooker tuned flow slip ons with the correct baffle settings, all that jazz. The bike had a noticeable, seat of the pants, increase in power, BUT. My gas mileage went down to 28MPG!!!!! So, I went to a dealer where a buddy works whom I trust to work on my bike. I told him that I loved the way it ran now and the newfound power but I needed the mpgs to go up a ways. Now its around 35-38mpg depending on if the wife is with or how I'm riding. I'm sure it will all change again when I get the motor back together and figure it all out.
remember also that some of your mpg loss could be due to the rider - excessive twisting of the throttle due to the excitement of increased power/sound/seat dyno.....
I'll let you know when I run another tank thru it.
I haven't been able to getenough time in the saddle since I did the install. I'll post when I do.I'm feeling right now at about 35,
But we'll see.
Thanks, I put a PC on my 07 and it ran the best at @35 mpg- if I leaned it out on the freeway, to allow occasion pinging, I could get 37 or 38. I have ordered the Fuelmoto pkg for my 08. Ordered it for an FLTR and then traded it for another Ultra (I guess I'm getting old, I could live with more wind in my face but the reach to the bars got old), should be the same map.
Thanks Iclick. I took it out on the freeway this afternoon, andit ran like scalded dog. But I swear, the gas guage went down faster than usual. I will try to research the A/F adjustment for better mileage. Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Drop me a PM or email if you have any questions about tweaking for mileage.
I had the same experience last week with my PCIII from Jaime
at Fuel Moto. Suckin' gas like a 4 barrel carb. I gotta get the
A/F set right and lean it out some so the bike don't pull towards
every gas station I pass. Don't get me wrong, she runs real Gooood... just alittle heavy on the fuel side. Best of luck with
your setup.
You don't need to be "sucking gas" while cruising, as it won't enhance performance, and the only reason to richen the A/F on the low-end is for added cooling. If you run synthetic oil and an oil cooler you can lean the A/F considerably without running into heat issues in summer. There are many threads on this here and in the ECM/ignition forum, but if you have any questions I'll try to answer. I've been playing with this for a year now and have made some observations.
Mileage of 38-40 is normal for city riding where you have numerous cold starts, but once warmed up and cruising at 55-60 a 96" engine is capable of 50mpg. OTOH, keep in mind some you guys are enjoying the newfound performance, which may be taking a toll on mileage while you're twisting the wrist.
