I use a soft strap and wrap it around the rear tire. Then strap it to the rear "d" rings with 2 locking straps.

I do what "soos" did - not compress the front forks. Made it to Sturgis and back (4400 miles in 10 days). Only other thing - MAKE SURE you check the tie-down straps - they WILL lossen up initially and then stay fairly tight after the first couple re-tightens.

on the back go right through the wheel with one tiedown to a ancor point in the floor
