Default Inner fairing removal

Have any of you guys that AREN'T mechanics tackled this yourself? I have the front end torn down anyway (chrome lowers) and I'm really debating whether or not this is above my skill level. Maybe I don't want that sucker painted after all! Looks scary in there!

Don't know how mechanically inclined you are but it's really not that bad as long as you take your time and do it right. (assuming that you were able to remove the front fork on your own)

However, if you've taken the outer fairing off and you have to ask yourself that question, it sounds like it may not be for you.

After sleeping on it, or should I say tossing and turning, I've decided to go for it. Question...my bike is black, do I need to have the inner painted AND cleared or can it just be cleared as is?

I did mine; the Service Manual has an excellent step-by-step description; no special tools required; many find taking digital pics/bagging-labeling, etc. help.

Just be really, really careful when putting the ignition/fork lock back in. The pins need to line up exactly or you will be in a world of ca-ca. I used a large, flat-bladed screwdriver to successfully line it back up the 2 times I removed the inner fairing.

As was said, take your time, read the shop manual, and have at it.

Its a pretty basic job,all that wiring looks scary but you can almost leave the wiring right where it unplugs from each gauge, take some pics just for some backup.
