I would paint it with a base coat/clear coat system like PPG. That's what we use in my bodyshop. There might be some wax or some other boogers hiding in the old finish. I'm going to do the same thing and I will use the above system. Just clean it well and use a fine scuff pad like a grey scotchbrite pad and use some bon ami powder cleaner ( like comet but without bleach in it) . Rinse well and dry. Two to three coats of black base coat and 3-4 coats of a highsolids clear. Sand with 2000 grit after clear is cured and polish to a gloss w/ 3M polishing comppound. alot of work, but looks really nice. You can skip the sanding &polishing if you can get a good slick finish w/o a lot of dirt nibs in it.
I found a guy that will do the black base coat and clear the inner and the switch cap for $100.00. Too good to pass that deal up so I'll be takingthe fairingthe rest of the way down on Monday or Tuesday. Wish me luck!
Thanks Man! I Had it powdercoated by a local company here in Reno. I felt the console gets to much abuse to paint ( fueling up ect. )The gloss black powdercoat ended up being an excellent match for vivid black. Jim
