Hello everyone Ive been surfing this forum for quite a while now, and ive decided to do chrome lower fork tubes on my 04 flhr. To be honest I dont want to pay $450 for HD ones, and people on here say the chroming is not the best. Where would you recommend for me to go purchase a set of them?Ive checked ebay but dont know which ones would be of the best quality. What else would you also recomend for me to do while im doing this job? Im definately going to Buy HD flamed uppers, flush axle and bad as hell fork cap.
Don't know their price, but if you want top quality chrome go to Brown's, one of the sponsors here. Had them do my '86 years ago & the chrome is still good.

I just bought a set of take off lower legs from EBAY, they should be here any day. Supposedly they were taken off with zero miles on the bike... I will be sending them on to Chromemasters in a week or so, they are going to shave the right caliper mount and chrome them for me. IMO,Brown's and Chromemasters are both 1st class chromers, you can't go wrong with either one.
after I get them back, I will pull my fork legs off and my indy will swap the guts for me.

Steve- If you can pull the legs you can "swap the guts". Nothing to it.

thanks, I keep thinking I may tackle it myself. never had a set of forks apart, but I have a service manual, and I read a couple threads in here that had details on the swap, and can usually muddle my way thru anything bike related...

Just remember...if you're just doing a lower swap, there is no need to completely disassemble the forks to the point of removing the springs. When the forks are off and the oil from them drained, there is just a copper bolt (6 mm) on the bottom and a spring clip on top of the fork seal that's holding it all together. Once those 2 things are removed you just swap the lowers, reassemble and add your oil. I would replace the fork seal and the copper bolts and washers with new ones, and you may need to fashion a tool to drive the new seal home (mine is PVC pipe from Home Depot). You've done the hard part already.
I have had the ones from Harley on every single one of my harleys so far so good never had an issue, just did my street glide for $400.00 for everything brand new...
