At some point I'll try to get a test ride but for now I valuethe opinion of those that have experience. Does a stock 96 have enough power? I know, I know, "everything can use more power" or "it depends how fast you want to go". Buttouring two up at 75+ mph, or up mountain roads at 6,000 feet, does a stock 96" motor maybe with a re-map and airbox mod have enough? For reference I felt a stock carburated EVO was way underpowered. Is the 96 that much peppier?
Ive got an Ultra and we ride 2 up all the time anywhere from2300 ft. to over 7000ft. We did rineheart slip ons, high flow air cleaner and the Harley remap. Its has enough power to cruise insix gear with out any trouble. Although I will say it should be dyno tuned as it still runs very warm, and I think performance, fuel mileage and a little extra power could be found. Mind you the wife and I are not little people by a long shot, and the bike does the job.
it depends on YOU. IMO, yes. Think about it, does an 88 EVO, does SE? To some they will say yes or no to both, keep on boring out or adding cams/kits, pipes, downloads. How much power is enough power for YOU is the question. My 08UC is Stage I and has all the ower I need. The question is, can you ride it within your abilities and is still satisify or even scare you. Go 100 mph on a 96 and ask yourslef if you want to go faster... Get there as fast as you can and ask yourself, was that quick enough? The answers I have are yes, it will haul ***, pull hard and get scary. I have had mine dyno'd and it runs like a bat outta hell.
sorry, but I don't think I answered your question aout stock - it ran better stock than with my stage I before dyno'd. The true duals lessened torque and the stock setup is engineered to run great even with that 80/20 'so-called' exhaust. It was engineered that way to run good without upgrades. I would keep it stock if I had to do it over again.
