Anyone running V&H Basic slip ons on a 07/08 touring bike with the stock head pipes and stage 1? How's the sound, performance? I want a nice deep sound but still want to hear the radio. Thinking of the basics, Ness BS and Fuel Pak.
They are nice and sound good they have a 2 inch baffle inside them. And power commander has maps on there web site for the new 08s I also have a few maps that run a little richer then what they offer.
I've got them on my 07 FLHX (stock headers) and love 'em.
I listened to several different brands/models of pipes in a side by side comparison at my dealer when I was buying the bike. I picked the ones that I felt had the throatiest low rumble with decent volume (loudness) and bark when twisting the throttle. They don't **** off the neighbors when I pull out of the neighborhood in the wee hours of the morning, but they can kick it up nicely when cranking on the throttle. At cruising highway speeds I can hear my radio just fine.
check out the Pythons from Eastern Performance model # 18010183 @ $289.00 to your door. These are the upslash and sound great. I am running them on my 08 Roadglide. My buddy has the other model that slash down and they sound just as good and are $20.00 cheaper.
I had a set on my 2007 RK that I liked a lot. They have a deep rumble, without being obnoxiously loud. They were a little too quiet for me (no radio to worry about), so I just replaced them with the Rhinehart true duals. The Basics do have a nice sound though, and they get better with time. I had 12,000 miles on them when I took them off and they sounded better than ever.
