So I just get off the phone with my dealer. I put in the list of all of the accessories that I wanted added to my 08 Street Glide before delivery. I decided to go with the BUB #7 exhaust and the Vance and Hines Fuel Pak. I called Vance and Hines to make sure that that combo would work and they told me that while they don't have an exact map they would, while on the phone with me, set up a map to work perfectly with the BUBS. Well, my dealer is telling me that the Fuel Pak will not work and that I have to get the SERT. As you all know that there's quite a price difference between the two. Is my dealer wanting more money??????
You input would be greatly appreciated! I'm heading to the dealer at 3:30.
I told my dealer that I spoke with Vance and Hines directly and that the Fuel Pak will work. My dealer wants me to speak with their technician when I arrive. He's going to tell me why the Fuel Pak won't work. What do you think the Tech is going to say? What should my comeback be?
If it were me, I'd make arrangements with V&H for the dealer to call them while you're standing there.
Call his bluff.
"That's great, and I can appreciate what you're saying, but here...here's the number for a V&H tech whom I spoke with earlier. Please call him and tell HIM why it won't work."
But that's just me. I hate it when over zealous and uneducated service techs try to play salesman.
Tell to kiss your *** and save some $$$ and do it yourself. It's honestly not difficult at all. Seriously.
You can get the parts cheaper "online" also. Do some looking around here, many have saved some serious cash and learned how to wrench on their own scoot.
If you do a search on the fuelpak here you will find lots of dis-satisfaction with the fuelpak if an exact map is not available from Vance and Hines. apparently there tech dept does not go out of its way to help develop a map for a combination it hasn't been configured for. I'd bite the bullet and get the SERT as it is much more tuneable by a good dyno tech.
Tell them to put in writing why V&H fuel pak won't work.
I have an 08 SG. The dealer in Pamona,CA (Good dealer) was going to sell me a Fuel Pak but I elected to go with the PCIII instead.
I'm not sure I would trust them with the fuel management set-up of the Fuel pak after they said it won't work. They might try to prove a point.
If they would mislead you in order to make a few bucks... what else would they do?
Just for kicks... ask about the PCIIIand the Thundermax.
Got the same line from my dealer when I went with the power commander. Harley is even an authorized dealer / supporter for the PC and they pull that line. And of course when there are any issues with the bike they bring that up. Tell'em to pound sand, they'll do it.
