Just picked up my new 08 SG with ABS, notice that the first pull on the front brakes i have more travel in the lever than the second or third pull.I asked the dealer, they bled the brakes but didn't get much better. Is this normal or do i have a problem ?
My 08 SG acts the same way, 1st pull half way to the bars, 2nd and 3rd pulls very firm. I'm going to try to get the dealer to bleed it out at the 1000svc, but it sounds like that didn't help you. If it doesn't help me, I'll get out the Mighty Vac and speed bleeders and do it myself.
My ownbike does not haveABS, but I have ridden 3 othersthat do (1 RKC and2 Ultras). None of them felt any different 1st, 2nd, or 3rd pull.
Just a thought, if its because of the ABS, why doesnt it happen with the rear brakeas well ? I know its a separate circuit but the technology is the same.
Might be worth checking the discs. Symptoms you describe can be air in the system (which bleeding should have cured), or warped discs pushing the pads back in the calipers.

Not rotors. You can pump it up firm, walk away from the bike, come back some time later, and the 1st pull is soft. Definately sounds like air in the system to me, it just may be more difficult to get all of the air out of extra plumbing and ABS circuit.
