Default New Guy -- Info Needed

Gents,

I am new here (Ive been lurking for a while), but not new to riding (I've been licensed/riding for 12 years although I have ridden off-road bikes as a kid - and still do at times). I have owned a few bikes over that period (I tend to hold on to them for a number of years before I sell). This is, however, my first HD so bear with me. I tried a search, but haven't really found what I am looking for so I havea few questions I'm sure are not new (so I apologize).

I bought a 2008 FLHRC which I absolutely love. I am currently getting together parts to do an Intake/Exhaust mod on the bike. Here is what I've decided on so far:

1) Rinehart True Dual (full exhaust system)
2) SE Pro Super Race Tuner (maybe not necessary, but its new and supposedly easier to tune)

and

3) SE Air Cleaner Kit

My questions stem from the Air Cleaner kit. I have not purchased it yet, but after reading a bunch of posts on here, I need some clarification. Like I said,I'm new.....So please be gentle[sm=imsorry.gif]. Anyway, here we go:

1) What is the SE Air Cleaner Kit part number for the 2008 Touring Family? Is it still 29440-99D?

2) Is the HD Air Filter that comes with the Kit still a P.O.S.??

3) I know someone on one of the threads (I cant find it again) mentioned that you can get away without the SE Air Filter Kit if you were to buy a K&N. What are the items/part numbers I would need if I were to go this route.

I plan on doing the wrenching myself. I have done most of the work on my other bikes, so that isnt going to change here. The only thing I am apprehensive with is the SE Pro Tuner as I don't have any experience with them. I have always used the PCIII USB on my other bikes, but since I don't have to use an ECU "piggy-back" unit for this application I prefer to go with the SE Pro Tuner.

Any advise on the set-up for this or any other pointers/suggestions/smart-remarks are welcome. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone on this site. As I get smarter on the HD, I hope to have something to offer as well.

Ihave been a member of other motorcycle forums in the past and have always enjoyed them. This seems like a great site as well..... Thanksin advance for your help/patience.

Take Care,
Dave

Welcome Dave

You might want to consider going with the Arlen Ness BIG SUCKER air kit as it seems to be a bit better then the SE Air Kit...

Also you might look at E-Bay as you can save some $$$

Does the Arlen Ness use the stock cover, or is it something more Arlen Ness-y (more exotic)?

Thanks,
Dave

You can still use your football cover - or a aftermarket type... I would recommend getting the Air Kit with the Chrome Backing Plate...

I don't mind my K&N #3909 (or 3910), But I'm stuck using stock cover with it, but if you want to stay with the stock cover it's worth checking out.

The only thing you mentioned above that I would not use is the se breather kit. Harley quit using k-n filters and are using some pos.

K&N still hasn't come out with the '08 version of their air filter yet, as far as I know. I've signed up for their email notification list and they are supposed to contact people when it's available.

Not sure while folks here feel the HD version is so bad, but I'm sure they'll chime in.
