Default Saving maps from a PCIII

I just recently purchased this Ultra and was at our local harley dealer. He made a comment that they have had some problems with the PCIII's loosing their maps. This got me thinking of what I could do to protect this information that is on the PCIII. I did get all the manuals and the PCIII came with a disk and aUSB cable. I loaded the disc on my lap top and there were no maps in there, only the basic program setup to start etc. My question is, Can you and should you save the current mapthat isin the PCIII? And how do you do this? Will you loose the info if you change out batteries? Will the bike then need to be dyno'd again? I tried to dosearch on this and couldn't find anything regarding the saving of the maps. Any help would be much appreciated.

It's easy.....Connect PCIII via USB-start bike-click "get map"-click "save map file", then save to directory on your hard drive.

But first createfolder on your hard drive...I call mine "back up maps PCIII"

Not sure how computer savvy you are but it's nothing more than connecting the PC to your laptop or desktop and saving the file. If you have it connected to your computer and the PC has a MAP loaded, all you have to do is open the PC software on your computer once you have installed it from the disc. On the left side near the top of the screen you will see a tab that says save MAP. You can save them to any file on your computer or even on the desktop if you wish. My advise would be to save the MAP you are using in the event something happens down the line and you need to retrieve it.

Thanks Hinzy and Cegusa!! I did check out powercomanders site and they do have alot of good info there. This will help me answer some of these questions. I didnt want to hook up to something and loose the info. Still wondering about the comment from HD regarding loosing these MAP's. Anyone heard of this and is it a problem? And by disconnecting the battery, will this cause the loss of any info?

I keep all maps backed up on my laptop, but not because I'm worried about the PCIII losing its stored map. Frankly, this is the first I've heard of this, and I wouldn't worry about it. I keep backups mainly because every map I've ever received I've tweaked, usually numerous times, and I keep all of them.

Did the stealer try to sell you a SERT after they told you this fable....lol. I have never lost a map on a PCIII. It is a good idea to have a copy of your map. Especially if it is custom map.

I had a pc on my old bike, it won't fit on my new bike. No, the pc doesn't loose the map when you disconnect the battery.

Everyone, Thanks for all your replies. This way of tuning is all new to me. I am used to grabbing a screw driver and a couple a different jet's and dialing the bike in. I will save the map this weekend.
