Do you have the finned head bolt covers? I had the dealer take them off my 2006 Softail and put them on the Street Glide when I bought it. After a few miles, the front one loosened up and would make a metallic rattling sound when throttling up.
When I am on the interstate, and I gun the throttle to accelerate (from 3rd, 4,5,6 gears), there is a rattling sound coming from the front cylinder area. A long time ago I had a similar rattle in my '72 Torino and the mechanic at the time told me to use Marvel Mystery Oil. Could this be a rocker arm? I would appreciate any help you guys can offer!
Is this mainly happening at low RPM, like accelerating when you're down in the 2000rpm range and pulling upward?
I'm just asking, because it could be the tranny rattle everyone solved with IDS. Do you have the IDS installed? You sure it's engine noise and not transmission noise?
Mine developed a metallic ticking sound at about 22,500 and has been driving me nuts. It does it mostly at idle and I think I found what it is. The cheap *** shifter linkage.
I had a bad rattle sound on mine before i went to 95."
The sound occurred during acceleration and on hard deceleration.
The problem was 2 colapsed lifters.
Mine does the same thing. I have the stage one with sert ( canned map only, no dyno ). And when I start rolling on the throttle it knocks and pings, I can keep on rolling the throttle and at a certain point it stops. Does not matter what gear or speed. I only use 93 octane, so I don't know if this is a timing issue or fuel. Bike runs fine other than that, but I wish I new what was going on
I noticed on my 00EGC that it seemed like the rocker arm area on my bike has started to make more noise, I found this weekend that the heel toe shifter pegs (not stock) on my bike were loose inside, I took the allen bolt out wrapped the rubber part with black electrical take and reinstalled them, no more noise at all. Good luck.
May sound trivial but did you check your exhaust and heat shields? I had a rattle that sounded like it was coming from the top end turned out it was a loose heat shield.
