When I am on the interstate, and I gun the throttle to accelerate (from 3rd, 4,5,6 gears), there is a rattling sound coming from the front cylinder area. A long time ago I had a similar rattle in my '72 Torino and the mechanic at the time told me to use Marvel Mystery Oil. Could this be a rocker arm? I would appreciate any help you guys can offer!
Maybe totally unrelated, however I was experiencing the same type rattle on an 04 Heritage. Tried the dealer, an indy, etc.to noresults. The rattle only occured at high speeds and usually immediately following a shift to a higher gear and would continue for some time.
Lo and behold, one day as I was changing my rider foot rest I found one lonely small washer that had slipped under the OEM footrest. This washer was my rattle.

Was it like a "ticking" but louder and not rhythmic? Seems mine does that too.

It is not rhythmic....it more metallic than a tick. It is a rattling sound...intermittent, especially happens when I really throttle up.
SEEMS LIKE ITS PINGING FROM BAD FUEL OR OFF TIMING..
ADD OCTANE BOOSTER TO UR TANK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS..
TRY AMOCO FUEL (PREMIUM) ONLY .
DOES IT PING MORE WHEN HOT?
I use Liquid Horsepower once a month. I can not answer if it happens when it is cold or only hot....never thought about checking. The rattling happens when I use Liquid Horsepower.
I have an 07 UC and had a similar rattle that happened at idle, or at speed. It drove me nuts and could not believe it was coming from the engine towards the front cylinder. It ended up being the brake pedel arm being close to the exhaust head pipe. When the engine shook the pipe would make contact with the pedal arm and would do that under hard throttle changes. Just a thought!
