I bought the adj. one for my '05 UC before heading out on a long road trip in the fall. If my wife isn't riding, I pretty much leave it on all the time now.
There is no way I could have done the 5k in 14 days without one, that's for sure.
I did tweak it a bit with some washers to get it to tilt back more. There was no chance of me riding the bike with the backrest in the forward most position and the back most position need to go back more for my taste.
Hey. after riding it some yesterday and today I took a longer bolt and a 1/2" rubber washer and put it on my ft. section.. Now I can use the thumb screw to fine adjust perfectly..!! Also took the Height adjustment screw all the way out because I don't need it.. If I want to, I can just pull mine out and toss it in a saddlebag..!!
I just read that in order to install the HD "non" adjustable BR that your have to bend the bracket / rods in order for it to be "right" Damn! $200.00 and you have to bend parts in order to be right?? Any body ever have this problem when they installed theirs?[sm=dontgetit.gif]
$110.00? That is the best price I've heard. Where did you get yours? The two offered by harley are - $209.95 for the "fixed" and $299.00 for the fully adjustable (without discounts.) Mustang that I've seen falls right about in the middle $260.00.
I put the HD adjustable backrest on my 06 EGC, and I love it. Oddly, my back didn't need the support, but my legs did. I guess I'm built funny, but it took all the strain off my upper legs. It's not overkill, IMO.
HD adjustable here also. Worth it imo. I don't adjust it much but it is nice to have the option. Either way get one it is a real life saver on long rides.
Save your money. Go with the HD non-adjustable. I'm happy with mine. Although it's removable, I never take it off. However, once I learned the technique, it is easy to remove and replace if you want to.
I have the none adjustable one. Why it's called nonadjustable is beyond me. There is a small screw in back to adjust back and forth. Which ever backrest you go with, I'll bet you wont be disappointed. Especially on long rides.
