Default Another RK question.......

I just went to the stealer to look at possibly getting a new RK Classic and so bottom line, it'll prob. be around $20-21K after tax and a few accessories.........don't know if I want to spend it or not........anyway, I end up talking to the owner a bit and he's talking about his 03 Classic. It has 31,000 miles on it and asking $15,500 which is pretty high, but it's got about 12K in accessories on it. I know I shouldn't be paying too much for them, but realistically, I would've in time hopefully added most of what he did. Basically, everythings chrome, has the HD 95", tour pak, oil cooler, diff. handlebars, etc...........am I stupid to even be considering this??

I sold my '99 RK with 45000 miles and about 8 grand in parts on if for $14000.00 to buy my '07 SG. I dont think his price is high and I gaurantee it was the best maintained bike in the shop. Most owners ride them then have the techs service them. If its clean and styled like you would like, sounds like a good deal!

Sounds like a good deal to me, especially if you would end up spending that extra 10 or 15K on acces.

I tossed around buying new or used when I got mine too. I opted for new because I fell in love with the duracell color,(you either like it or hate it)all the standard upgrades on the 08's. Since this is my first Harley, I wanted to "make it mine" by adding what I choose, not what someone else put on it.
Good Luck with your decision.

I can see both sides of this one DZ...making it your ride is great fun (doing it with mine as I ordered a new seat yesterday and chrome Heritage bars). On the other hand, we spend a fortune in buying accessories and then end up essentially giving our bikes away when we sell them. If you spend $8000 on accessories and sell for $14,000, then you really sold your bike for $6000. I say rhuff has a good deal in front of him and if this is what you want...gor for it!! Just my .02 worth.

This would be my only reservation, too. How much of that extra money in upgrades might not be to your liking? IMO, half the fun of owning these things is the upgrade/customization process.

Thanks guys for all the good responses.........not sure what I'm going to do, basically, I'm getting a Classic, it just depends whether new or used.........I agree, it's nice making a bike "yours" but fortunately for me, his is just about exactly what I would've done. Such a tough choice to have!!!! Either way, I'll be riding a beautiful Road King as soon as winter leaves minnesota (which by the way, it's -9 and -36 with the f'n wind chill!).

I think the dealer owner'sbike would be great for the following reasons.......

-You know it's got to be in top condition
-You know all the mods were done properly by shop techs
-You know any mods were well chosen by a very experienced rider or at least a guy who has seen it all and knows what works well and doesn't
-The owner and shop guys will probably treat you well in the future due to it being owner's former ride.

Rather than quibble over 200 bucks, I'd see if the owner is willing to toss in your next service or two.

All that said, if you really like the bike and most of the mods are items you would eventually add, then get it over with and start riding that bitch......I truely am glad I didn't buy an '08 cause I'm concerned with the fly by wire and a few other things the've changed on the newest models.
