How important is ABS, a six speed tranny, IDS, a six gallon fuel tank, improved clutch, a fuel injected engine, electronic trottle control, etc to you?

I gotta tell you a stock 08 touring bike is a sweet ride out the door.

Only you can decide what to do. I would demo an 08 before I made the decision.My.02.

One thing to consider, is that the used bike has 31000 miles on it and if you put 20 to 30 K more, you'll have a hard time selling it if you want to. There are many used bikes out there with 10 to 15 K miles on them, many with less. Also, if you're going to finance any part of the bike, used ones are difficult to find financing for. (at least at a reasonable rate) YMMV

I have to admit the ABS is sweet, but it doesn't lend itself to easy wheel swaps. The six speed is also nice, but I've hardly used it.....The IDS is wonderful but can only fit 07-08's....My electronic cruise has scared me a few times when it didn't wanna disengage, but I can see where it would be attractive to long distance guys.

I guess it's a toss-up depending on what you want/need.

Those 12K in acc the dealer claims....I'd like to know what he installed to total 12K....Maybe the OP can list them for us.

Mine is a stock 08 RKC and I'm glad I bought it new. I know from day one who and HOW it was ridden. The factory warranty, 3 year "extended warranty" (insurance policy), etc. It really depends how much customization you want to do (kind of like buying a "sports car" - How fast do you want to go and how much money do you have). To me, its kind of cool to look at the odo and know I put each and every mile on it (uh... well, except for the first 1.7 miles). I have put a few "doo-dads" on the bike ( fender skirt, floorboard covers, saddle bag rails, locking gas cap and detachable sissy bar...bout the only thing left at this point (I know I know....) are some highway pegs.

When I bought mine (09/07) I got the first of the two year extended warranty "insurance policy" thrown in ($600.00), and before that the price was still about $400.00 less than 3 other dealers I shopped.

Also it depends on how long do you plan on keeping it (note I did say plan...). ha ha ha ...good luck!!!

I'd shop harder beforeI'd give the guy $15,500 for that bike. I had a long reply all laid out but this forum runs like crap and it gave me a server error like it does a billion times a day........f**king unbelievable[:@]......anyways, take some time and look in the classifieds here and you will see low mileage, newer RK's for sale cheaper than what you are considering, some a model year older but less miles and meticulously maintained..

Here is my all time fav:CLICK ME <----blow this pic up and look at this beauty.

There are better deals out there. Some, like posted, $10,000 cheaper than a new one..It's your money, but I'd bank the savings and ride.

The guys are giving you some good advice here and in the end it is your choice and your money. The part that leaves a sour taste in my mouth is if you walked into the dealer and asked about trading in the same bike thatyou are thinking of buying from the dealer, he'd give you $QUAT for the accessories. I guess because he's the dealer he can sell his personal bike + accessories for higher than anyone else walking in the door. Ain't fair but thats just the way it works I guess.

Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Too many things to process...I've been thinking long and hard about it (obviously).......I think I will offer him 14,300 or so and see where that gets me. I think if I could get it for right around there, sweet, if not, yeah, the 96" kinda negates the 95", I would like ABS, 5 years newer, you know the story. I guess either way, I'll let you guys know.

Well..........who knows if spending a ton of $ brings any clarity, but I bought the '03. I struggled and it came down to, do I want to make 5 yrs of payments or 3 yrs of payments and pretty much not have to spend a dime on accessories. Plus I got the dealer down to $15,000. While I know it's not the steal of the century, I feel good about it and I know I would've put at least 5 grand into a new one. Basically, I had already had $3,500 into a new one when I was looking at all the things I "needed."

I'm excited. This is my first Harley. I still have a Honda Shadow Sabre in the garage to ride that's pretty customized too, so I can pick and choose which to ride. I'll get picks posted in a while, I'm actually going to leave it at the dealer for about a month until it warms up a bit here. Anyway, thanks everyone for their input.
