I travel all around this country teaching tactical firearms classes.
(Ex-LEO, now full time professional trainer.)
When I have to travel to a northeastern state such as New Hampshire I'll go up I-81 through Virginia, into PA, then cut across New York State. I have to drive all the way around New Jersey rather than risk going through the state with guns in the vehicle. Ex-LEO and current valid carry permits frommultiple states mean nothing to the gestapo. New Jersey is a totalitarian state much like a foreign country.
Horror stories abound.
I was recently contacted about teaching a class for a NJ police agency. I politely declined.
When the police do not trust their citizenry with guns, the citizenry should not trust the police.
The bad guys do not obey the laws anyway. So, the only people with guns in a place like that are the bad guys.
There are about 40 some-odd states that issue CCW permits. Most are reciprocal with each other. Move to a FREE state!

Arkansas has plenty of teaching opportunities. And you can get a concealed carry permit after you have lived here a year, if I recall. I wouldn't live in NJ (or the PRC) for anything. Come taste some freedom and see if you like it.
I am from California. I was issued my permit to carry 37 years ago when I was 22. I have carried every since. I worked in an auto parts store until I was 40 and then went to work for a full time, paid fire department.
Yes, itcan bedifficult to get a permit in California. Once you have a permit, California allows you to carry almost everywhere.
Relocating out of NJ is the only forseeable option for you to get a permit.

ok, I read the posts on those who carry. I have nothing against it, but my question is of those who do carry how many are LEO or former LEO. Also, those non LEO who carry, where are you from that allows you to legally carry. I'm from NJ and carrying here is not easy (legally). I've been shot at, but because I am not LEO I cannot get a carry permit.
Approximately 40 states now, commonly referred as "shall issue" states, make it relatively easy to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. You should move out of NJ at the first opportunity as there is a laundry list of good reasons to. This issue is just one of them.
I have had a Florida permit for close to 16 years, just moved to Tennessee as a resident need to apply for permit within 6 months.Florida will issue out of state permits I Belive. Not sure what the deal is for sure.Florida permit is honored in most states.Maybe some one knows a little more..sorry if I sound stupid had a long day..
Here's another one you have to worry about. Lived in Colo. for 23 years had a CCW there but could not carry in the city of Denver. Some cities make up their own rules.
It's easy to get a permit from Florida, even if you are not a resident of Florida.
Beware however,SOME states that recognize FL permit for Florida residents DO NOT recognize that permit for NON RESIDENTS. In other words, some states require that you be a resident of the state that issued the permit.
