Sorry I guess it's been amended since I left. Now Denver only has laws against assault rifles, sat night specials, and open carry. It was bad back in the late 90's when your permit did no good in Denver. It was really bad in Jefferson CO. like you say were the sheriff had the discretion of issuing the permits.
Never been in law enforcement or military. Was licensed CCW (formerly "CHL" in Texas) from 96 to 2005. Lost carry permit due to a B misdemeanor conviction (for defending myself on my own property IN TEXAS, go figure). Waiting for the 5 year waiting period to pass before reapplying.
I don't carry these days (I tend to abide by the laws), and tend to avoid the places where I'd need to defend myself.
I know...no one ever knows when or where the need will arise, and my opinion may change eventually. But so soon after getting off probation for a bull$h!t conviction, I'm a little gun shy (no pun intended) when it comes to breaking the law and carrying illegally.
However, in the 10 years I carried I only had one occasion to draw my weapon. Even then it only required showing the weapon for the would be assailants (group of 5 older teen males approaching me at an ATM) to realize it was a losing proposition and change their course to a direction that took them far away from me and my business.
Then again...I may be lying. =)
The only way anyone would know is if I felt my or my families lives were in danger. /wink
The 2nd Amendment gave me the right to carry a gun, and without stating open or concealed carry. Leave it to lawyers, judges (old lawyers), and politicians to do all they can to restrict our rights and in the process give them more power over the people. Everyone should be able to carry a gun (open or concealed) who are above the age of 18. And yes I include con's as well. They have paid their time and they are still Americans. We would have a lot of funerals for about the first 6-9 months as the punks learn what their parents never taught them then things would settle down and America would be a lot better place.
For America to be a country of free people we seem to have more laws than almost every other country in the world. Our freedom bought by the blood of our brothers and sisters have been restricted by the greed of a few liberals with loud voices!
Ok, I'll get off the soapbox now. This thread just touched a nerve as you can probaly tell.
ok, I read the posts on those who carry. I have nothing against it, but my question is of those who do carry how many are LEO or former LEO. Also, those non LEO who carry, where are you from that allows you to legally carry. I'm from NJ and carrying here is not easy (legally). I've been shot at, but because I am not LEO I cannot get a carry permit.
Whew! and to think the Bill and Hillary show is just around the corner (or for that matter O-blam-a or McCain).......Oh man I think its time to start peeing our pants....ha ha ha
