I was looking at the eBay tour packs and started to buy one but "stuff" happens. I have an '07 RK and I want the tail lights, Rack on the lid, back rest with arm rests with the ability to add speakers if I want to.
What should I be on the look at for and are the after market packs any good? The good Harley ones are going for over $1k and after shipping charges around $1.2k. What will I see at Daytona or other big rallies?
I got my tour pak from my dealer for around $600, color matched. Quick detach docking hardware was another couple hundred, but still nowhere near $1.2k.
[EDIT]
I should learn to read (comprehend) better. "I want the tail lights, rack on the lid....".
That is what my stealer quoted me, including my 15% new bike buyer discount. I went aftermarket for < $600 all up. Not as nice as the HD stuff, but quick on and off, and will work.
Vettedog: Senda PM to sifularson; he purchased a knock-off fiberglass King TP from an ebay vendor (who did a mold of the HD King TP and started making fiberglass versions available with or without hardware installed). He's pleased with his. Others have purchased from this same ebay seller, but I don't recall their HDF names.
A couple of observations (from others and my own): If you are patient, you can save money buying on Ebay--if not, you don't. If you buy a used TP on Ebay, even one without damage, if it isn't color matched, painting a TP will cost about 100-200, unless you own a paint shop or have a family member or friend who does. The HD knock-off TP's do not have the steel bottom plate that is OEM in the HD TP's and HD does NOT sell this plate as a seperate part.
I got the Harley King tour pack, painted at factory, then I added taillamp kit and backrest myself. It does add up to about $1200 after your all done with the detachable rack, etc, but why put a cheap after market part on a new RK??
Hay, once you get setup with detachable tour pack, how do you insure swiped, do the make a lock?
You can purchase a lock for the detachable rack through Harley, of course as you would expect it's over priced. I have a detachable for my bike and my plan is to just use a bicycle chain lock to keep folks from stealing it.
