No question that it is an oil "weep". If it were mine, I would let it go for now, rather than risk some kid in service tearing my bike/motor apart. If it gets worse, towards the end of the warranty, you can always deal with it at that point.
I had the same issue. As a matter of fact it looked exactly as the picture that Thirdup posted. The dealer ended up "fixing" it after I had a few go arounds with the service manager. When he said it was normal I told him to put that in writing. That was when he said he would replace the gasket.
It turns out that it may not have been the gasket after all. Two weeks ago I had taken off my pipes to put on my new Rinehart True Duals and saw oil coming from the base of the rear cylinder. I called the dealer and theystarted the same old crap as last time. I called another dealer that I've heard from others has a great service dept. and they told me to bring it in, no problem. It is covered by the warranty. I just need a break in the weather to get it there.
By the way"trackadaptor",I only had about 4000 miles on the bike when I had the initial issue and now there is only another 800 miles on it since they repairedit. Goodluck.
ORIGINAL: big_al Is a Harley and it is supposed to leak oil!!!!![sm=joke.gif]
My father was in theAir Forceand flew B-52's ( 1960 - 1968 ), I remember as a kid, he took me threw a B-52 and I noticed many oil leaks... he told methey had many "back up systems" and when he and his co-piolt did not see any oil leaks he became very concerned tat there was no oil in the line...
I just had this fixed under warranty by Thunderbird HD in Albuquerque. I told the service writer and he scheduled for the next day with no hassle. The leak was actually coming from the between the crankcase halves and ending up on top of the trans case. They had to split the cases to reseal them. I have just under 11,000 miles on the bike (07 Ultra). I dropped off on a Sunday morning and picked it up Monday evening.
sounds like a good reason to do a build. I know this probably don't help but if it is just a cylendarbase o-ring leak it is not that big of a deal prety easy to fix in about 3-4 hrs. Tehy should fix it under waranty but if you modified it from stock it may take some fighting.
