I had a similar oil spot on my '07 FLHX, which I thought was weeping. Turned out that there was oil dripping from the back of the k&n air filter backing plate and dripping down the side. I changed to the stock airbox, wiped off the oil, have not had a problem since.
My bike (07 FLHT) was in the shop getting its Texas inspection so I told them to go ahead and change the crankcase oil. When they were finished theservice writer told me they had spotted an oil leak between my engine and tranny and its the exact same place everybody else has noticed it,pretty much at the junction of thecrankcase and tranny sections of the top of the unit construction. I had noticed this months ago and I touched it and got no real oil on my finger and it washes off pretty easy. Ive never seen any liquid or anything dripping down from the bike, its alot like graphite like somebody else said. Well, they said they would be glad to fix it under warranty (Ive got one more year) but I think Im going to hold off. I dont know exactly what it is but it doesnt feel like oil on my fingers or if it is its so little not to notice. I think Ill justkeep an eye on it and if it doesnt get any worse I think Ill leave it alone. Its been my experience that having to do a moajor teardown to fix something that minor always leads to bigger problems down the line (maybe worse oil leaks!).
1st post! there goes my virginity...
i just got my 07 flhx back from the dealer. went out into the garage and noticed a very small oil puddle under the bike. i wiped it up and decided it was from one of my other bikes, as the this one only has 2K miles on it and is still new. 2 days later, small puddle again! leaking where the engine bolts up to the tranny (no gasket on this location) the dealers (service writer) first response when i took it in was "how bad does it bother you" (no ****). i told him $20K, brand new bike, it freakin bothers me pretty good...warranty covered it. they had to drop the entire motor and got it plugged up, so far so good. no drips yet. not what
i was hoping to get out of the Harley experience. hopefully a one time deal.
I just got my bike back last week after the second time finding oil (see post above). The service manager told me that it was the lower seat gasket. Apparently there is part of the gasket missing or itsnot the proper gasket for what it needs to do. He said that he was fooled twice into thinking that it was the gasket between the primary and tranny. My bike was the 5th one that had this same leak and that hereported it to the MOCO. So far after one week no issues. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
BTW: the bike is a 07 Road King Classic and the warranty covered the work.
