I did mine last weekend. I put the remote inside the fairing and put the Radio Shack momentary switch through the inner fairing. The switch is just barely long enough to go through. I also did the Radio Shack siren thing into the security system. Parts for both less than ten dollars.

My switch went through just fine but the there's not quite enough for the rubber boot. I pulled the plastic nut out of the bootto attach the switch.I have the rubber boot on it but I'm not sure it will stay. I was thinking about putting a bead of silicone around the bottom of the boot and the fairing.

I too put the controller in the fairing, velcro'd it to the top of the CB unit and ran the wire to the inner faing and installed a Radio Shack Moment switch. Works fine. If I hafta replace th eopener battery, can have the fairing off and back on in about 10 minutes, actually easier than pulling the seat.

While I said this was a sweeet install in an earlier post, all I have done is velcroed my remote into one of the bags on my windshield triple bag. Easy to use and out of site.

I used BSEA's method off the DIY forum which eliminates the need for a switch altogether. Also gets rid of the battery and operates of the battery for the bike. You can eliminate the switch by soldering it closed, or always on, across the back of the remote circuit board. Pop out the remote battery and solder a lead from each of the battery contacts to the headlight highbeam wires. I can now operate my garage door remote without letting go of the handlebars, and while still rolling even.
