you know, I am a law enforcment contractor in one of my companies, as a matter of fact, I just returned a few minutes ago from moving a drug seizure, I see those cops who are good and those who are bad, I see cops who are nice to me as they feel I am on the good side and then I see them virtually screw someone else who has done nothing wrong based on how they look or the circumstances or people they are talking to..... I was treated like dirt by a cop when I was on my Harley, I am thinking hmmmmmm, I am riding a brand new bike, no lien holder so it was paid for in cash, my jacket, boots chaps and helmet are almost 2,000.00 and he acted like I was a crook wanting to search me and my wallet, he found an ID that scared him, said, is this ID real, how did you get this.... then the ******* wanted to be friends, I think that for the most part cops treat you how you treat them until you cross the line and or do something questionable..... there are those (a percentage) who are just jerks and need to be weeded out, not just cops, all professions....a sad day , it makes many cops look bad just because this guy is a jerk, they need to throw the book at him, fire him, sue him and take somehting away to remind him not to treat anyone like he has in the past, maybe he needs to lose his house and start all over to bring him inline with the rest of society

Both sides??? The cop was suppose to be the "ADULT"

ORIGINAL: Phurion

There are right ways to handle situations, then there are wrong ways.

Personally, from what I could tell in that video, I believe all parties involved handled it poorly (the "wrong" way).

As someone else suggested, none of us knows what happened before the clip started.

I'd like to give the LEO the benefit of the doubt, but his behavior was pretty unprofessional and certainly not mature.

gene01,

you know, I am a law enforcment contractor in one of my companies, as a matter of fact, I just returned a few minutes ago from moving a drug seizure, I see those cops who are good and those who are bad, I see cops who are nice to me as they feel I am on the good side and then I see them virtually screw someone else who has done nothing wrong based on how they look or the circumstances or people they are talking to..... And there you go. I was trying hard to stay out of this one. I read this and couldn't agree with it more. And unfortunately, that stated tug or ward will continue regarding a good cop or a bad cop. There are both. As I have posted elsewhere with the addition of video phones and camera's more stuff will continue to even the playing field. Thank God is all I can say.

That fat *** better be glad that was not my kid, I' ll be sitting in jail right now!! Hope they fire his a$$, that was just down right uncalled for. Those parents better pursue a lawsuit against him, in my opinion.

Maybe the cop overreacted a little but sue him for what? Your joking right. Everyone needs to get out of the mentality of "he yelled at me and made me sad so I'm going to sue" Your reaction is more absurd than the video itself. The cop didn't pummel the kid he yelled at him..... big deal. Quit skating over there.

ok.. i'm in baltimore regularly... the area they were in is the inner harbor.. very touristy.. and not "car-accessible" most of the cops that patrol this area are on bicycles.. thats what this guy is.. a "bicycle-cop" hence the very visible uniform..however im sure he gets the "clown-car" due to his weight, which is most likely a contributing factor to his demeanor...as said before... you wouldnt find this guy a few blocks over...only actual "uniformed"-officers patrol that beat..in real cars w/ real guns, fighting real crime.. this "officer" is really just a walking directory kiosk that tourists can ask directions, and a visible l.e.o. presence to keep the homeless and pick-pockets at bay...
as for the situation..i see it as everyone involved was in the wrong... they ALL had the correct intention... but failed miserably in the execution...there are multitudes of signs covering the entire area that prohibit skating and skatboarding..so the kids shouldnt have even been in the area for that purpose... when confronted.. they thought it was all big fun.."look barney fife is yelling at us.. ha ha were so cool"... showing no respect for the officer what-so-ever..a simple "yes sir" would have avoided the entire situation...instead.. the kid [who obviously has never been taught to respect authority] has the nerve to smart-off and disrespect the "officer's" position and/or person... as far as officer rivieri..he handled the situation no better than the children...instead of getting physical [with a non-violent minor child] he shouild have given them a good verbal bitch-smack... taken their info [which would scare the crap out of any 14 y.o.]
threaten to call mommy and daddy... and sent them on their way.. problem solved.. officer "not-so-friendly" keeps his dignity..and the kids can still be rebels.. on their way home....

Man this dude has a real problem. It is no wonder that kids don't have respect for
LEO's. This type of thing goes on alot this was just caught on tape. Check into
his past you will most likely find he was bullied as a kid, now he got a badge so
he can bully back. What a joke for a LEO.

I was OK with the officer's attitude until he grabed the kid around his neckand threw him to the ground. There was no call for that. It actually pissed me off. I'm not going to run my mouth about "what I'd do", but if that was my kid....

In the summer I respond to quite a fewcalls of chronic skateboard offenders. Its a quality of life/nuisance call. As with all calls it has the potential for anything to happen-even death. Alot of 14 year olds have access to and carry firearms, not just thejuveniles that look the part either. In my opinion (and I hate Monday morningQB ing other LEO's but this wasn't a split second decision it looks morelike a tirade by this Officer)the officer portrayed a negative image of Police to juvenilecontacts, endangered himself and others by his actions (if any of the juveniles possessed a weapon and felt threatened orcompelled to use it), and was ineffective in achieving a long term solution to a short term issue. I can't believe that in this day and agewith thevarious "new" crimes and a resurgence of the "old" crimes thatwe recieve somany complaints of skaters. On the sidewalk on a Main roadway, sure its a hazard and corrective enforcement need to be taken, but I use my discretion if they are in a empty parking lot after hours and no signs are posted by the property owner or his designee. At any rate I personally don't like that style of policing. Just my opinion.
