Hi, I have an o7 sg this is my first bagger and 1st harley, would like to lower rear end a bit, Cannot aford an air ride set up, But I don't want to buy crap rear shocks either, Any Input will be greatly appreciated.
I've seriously looked into buying a rear lowering kit for my 05 police electra glide and didnt' because it's my opinion that lowering the bike or altering the factory rear suspension will decrease ride quality.
I installed 12½" Progressive 440's and the ride improved greatly, although it's been a minor adventure tweaking the spring preload. I now have it dialed in to give a smooth ride yet very little bottoming. The 13" would be even better if you don't mind the height change, which is a factor only if you are vertically challenged or like the slammed look better.
Another option is to buy some stock HD 13" air shocks on Ebay, usually costing around $50, and go with that or add a 1" lowering kit. I had such an arrangement (White Bros. kit) on my old RK and it worked superbly. That kit claimed it didn't reduce suspension travel and I believe it.
I'm wiping my glasses off to see if I misread the question being asked here. Poster say he has stock RG with 12" shocks on it and wants to lower it and everybody that has posted so far has talked about raising the shocks, I'm not sure how that's going to help him.

I am also looking to change out my rear shocks. I have been looking at the progreesive 440's. They will drop your bike 1/2 inch from stock shocks. I have been told, that they ride just as good if not better, but that is according to the tech guy at progressive.

I dropped the rear of my Eglide Classic from stock 13" air to 12" 440's and the ride is improved. I don't know as I would go any lower unless I was always riding solo.
