Default Utra Brace

Has anyone one done this mod to their Tour Pack?

http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id40.html

Seems like a lot of money for such a simple idea. That damn little cable drives me nuts. Has anyone come up with anything else to replace the cable?

Wife got me one for Christmas, after looking at it I decided not to install it, seemed like the cable would suffice but, Damn I did not know it was so pricey, its just a locking hinge.

Guess I will install it. She also got me a tour-pack wall hanger, that thing works great. I think I will not go looking for the price on that.

So whats 70 or 75.00 for a hinged brace??!! Heck ya spend 20 grand on a bike then scrip on a brace!... At least it's functionable unlike all the chrome do-dads that there is no hesitation on buying...

Go to lowes, buy a brace in the cabnet hardware section, make up some little attaching plates, get some washers etc... etc... etc... Oh yea, it's gas money to get to and from Lowes... and then by the time you make a brace that will actually work you'll have more time and money in it then you would expect!

BUT, if ya got the time and gas money and want to play around with it... then make your own.. In the long run it could save you about half the price of buying one that's been tested, proven with all the hardware included..

So many people wouldn't think twice in buying chrome do-dads that are mainly for show only but when it comes to the hiden hardware.. well that's another story..

Good luck on making your own...

Why replace the cable. Does the lid of your tour pack fall closed when you have it open?

No but many times I've closed the lid only to find the cable sticking out so the Harley stock set up really is a 2 handed closure, 1 to close the lid and one to make sure the cable stays inside the tour pack. The cable works but just a pita.

Disconnect the cable and twist in the other direction and then the cable will fall into the tour pack. One hand every time

I can't see any problem with the cable.

Never a problem with my cable, especially at that price.[sm=smiley24.gif]

I tried your method, it does work. However, when I finished up and closed the lid after many tests, it had somehow untwisted itself.

Scratched my head on that for awhile and discovered that the cable end had spun around on the screw 360 degrees and untwisted itself during the last test.

I discovered thatthe cable does not need to be disconnected, just spun around in the right direction.
