when, after about twenty minutes of riding, I took a look at her vital signs and WHAT!? No oil pressure! None, nada, zero! I began to panic, listening for noises, checking to see if oil was spraying all over my leg. Nuthin, bike seemed to be running fine. I rode on, hoping that it was just a blown fuse or maybe the gauge had gone bad when it hit me. DUUUHHHHHH! I had unplugged the oil pressure sending unit to route the 02 sensor for my new Thundermax, and had forgotten to plug it back in! WHEW!!!! I pulled over, plugged it in, and everything was cool. Got in about an hour of riding before heading home and trying out the new Tmax. First thing I noticed was the disappearance of any decel popping. It was gone right away. After about 10 miles or so it felt as though the throttle response was smoothing out. Seems that there are no flat spots. The throttle seems to be happy just about anywhere I put it. The bike feels more relaxed, if that makes any sense. Can't say it was an easy install, but the problems came from my Fat Cat exhaust, not the Tmax itself. The bung plug on the front side of the exhaust had seized in it's hole, so I had to remove the exhaust and take it to a shop where the mechanic had to weld a nut on to the bung plug and then used an impact wrench to get the little bastard outta there! Then I had to hunt down new exhaust gaskets, but finally I made it back home and finished the install. So far I'm really pleased with the Tmax. Looking forward to getting in some time in the saddle to see how things improve over time. PCIII for sale!
Used to discourage people from puttin' oil pressure gauges on EVO's 'cause the first time they saw nearly "0" at idle they'd head to the shop scared to death that somethin' was wrong with their motor. Took forever to convince 'em it was normal...............
That heart attack-like feeling is what lets us know we are live and kickin'We've all been there and we just end up grinning at ourselves for the rest of the day. Glad it was nothing serious.
Ride safe!
...glad your bike is o.k.....the thing is, oil-pressure gauges on HD's are ALMOST as useless as the air-temp gauge...if one were to lose oil-pressure completely, you'd know it faster than lookin at the gauge, by the sound of the engine....
