Anybody using a Marlins Head Temp Gauge? I'm thinking of getting one and replace the air temp gauge. I know most use a oil temp gauge but I think I would like to go with the head temp gauge. What would be the headtemperature range on a 07 stock 96ci ? The Marlin gauge reads to 340 degrees.

They have two styles. One for rockerbox mount and one for fairing mount. The fairing mount is very reasonable as far as price.
Iappreciate the link Thank you.
I do like the gauge. Have been eying ones on e-bay for some time have not made the move yet. I'll be thinking hard on this one. Planning on some mod's in near future and this would work well with some of my ideas.
From my aviation experience, where head temperatures are monitored and pistion engines are air cooled, I would say a normal head temperature would be around 325*. Aircraft engines generally redline at 425*.
It uses a sender that replaces the plug washer(s). My thought is to buy the gauge, two sending units and a micro switch to switch the signal line and be able to monitor both F & R CHT. It has been explained to me, that the best place to monitor themp is at the base of the plug or as close as possible.

I have an infrared thermometer that I have been playing around with.
Earlier this week I saw my rear head at 257 degrees and front head at 235. This was with an ambient temp of 57 and at 70-75 mph.
This is on a 2005, 88 inch carbed bike.
I reckon the 07 and 08's will be hitting MUCH higher than that (and probably higher than 345) during the summer in stop and go traffic.
Looks like the sensor plate is held by a head bolt on the right side. The head bolts on my 96" are simi recessed (about 1/8" to 3/16"). The sensor plate is flat. Don't know if shimming out the 1/8" space would be a good idea. What dya think?
