I thought long and hard about sharing this on your thread, but I have dealt with Terry Components for more than a couple of years, and they don't deserve to be thrown under the bus because you can't recoup your money.

HarleyPingman:

You are confusing facts. Yes I did PM you to ask about how hot my unit was running. Because at that point in time I had defended the TVII and didn't want to look like an ***. I have freely admitted even now that there were positive aspects of it. But I said before and say now that my engine was running hot. I didn't realize how hot till I bought the infrared thermometer. Then I found out with the TVII on the Bikemy rear cylinder was hitting 350 degrees. I presnted this to Jim at Terry Comp along with pictures of my plugs and he told me it was running too hot. He told me to sent it back for a new unit. I did ask instructed. He promised to send me a new unit. Promise unfufilled.

As far as them replacing an older unit, they did so under warranty. I bought the first unit from American Classic Motors. They don't build the unit, nor do they service it under warranty. My first unit was defective and I had a racing idle problem. Terry Comp didn't do me any favors, they honored their warranty. Just as they promised to do now, but didn't and sent me what you see in the pictures and called it a new unit.

Its bad enough that I have to fight with a company to have them honor their word and their warranty, but now I have to fight with another Biker. Divide and conquer is an old strategy. We should all stick together to make sure companies don't take advantage of us.

My PM's to you prove nothing more than my concerns that my unit was defective and running too hot. Your the only one up here I know of using it to compare notes with. As I said I submitted my evidence to Jim who authorized its return for a new one.

It aint so. At least the way he has all the facts screwed around.

I PMed him cause he was the only one up here who had a TVII that I knew of. My PM was because I was concerned about how my unit was acting. As it turned out when I finally took temps with my infrared thermometer the rear was at 350 degrees with the TVII on it. Jim at Terry Comp with that information along with pictures of my spark plugs authorized a return saying mine was running too hot and was not normal. I returned it and awaited shipment of a New Unit he promised me.

HarleyPingman:

This is a response to another thread on the same subject I wanted to share with you. I'm not against the company, my beef is with Jim. But I wanted to share this with you. Also I have included the pictures of my plugs. It was the plugs and the reported temps that warranted Jim to recall my unit for an exchange to a new unit.

I bought the original unit from American Classic Motors. When the unit was acting up I contacted Terry Components because the service the warranty. Jim suggested things for me to try and I did them but they didn't help. Finally Laurie authorized me to return it for a refund. I sent it back. Then when Laurie contacted American Classic Motors they refused a refund. Laurie offered to send a brand new unit to ACM at no charge to cover the expense of giving me a refund, but once again ACM refused. A long time passed and Laurie was trying to get a refund through Drag Specialties the main dustributor. Nothing was working. So I finally told Laurie just to send me the new unit which she did.

I wasn't looking for the money as much as I was looking for a unit that worked. If the TVII worked as they say it should, I figured that had to be a good thing. So I tried it. Once again I noticed it dialed itself in within the 50 ~ 75 miles. Throttle response was good and fuel mileage was great. I did have one concern, the engine wasn't running any cooler and my plugs were white. I just wasn't sure it was running rich enough. I didn't have anybody or anything to compare it to. I did find one member up here Pingman who was using one, and I PM'ed him to ask questions about the heat. I PM'ed him cause I had defended the unit against others who made a lot of negative remarks about it. I defended the good points that I had experienced. But I didn't want to ask about the heat in public cause then the hecklers would just use that as more ammunition against the unit which at the time I didn't think was fair. So I PM'ed him and asked about the heat, and the plugs.

I bring all this up cause he jumped into another one of my threads and basically accused me of lying just to get the money back. Which isn't the case at all. After all that has recently happened I have made remarks about getting my money back. I've made remarks about selling it. Of course I would now after what they have recently done to me. When I say them let me clarify, what Jim the Technician did to me. He told me to send my unit in as he said the temperatures were too high, and the pictures of my plugs were too white. I sent it back at my expense. He promised to send me a brand new unit. The pictures are what I received. I called him immediately and he still insists to this day that the pictures you see is a brand new unit that he tested. I could understand a little dirt, or maybe a scratch or two, but not the way this one looks. The crank position sensor is cracked and a plastic tooth is broken off and missing. Its not what I was expecting nor promised.

I'm not attacking the company, nor am I attacking the TVII. It did have some positive aspects. Unfortunately for me it never worked as promised. I have heard from others that it works just fine. I guess I am not one of those people.

If he had kept his word and sent me back the new unit I wouldn't be on this post. This is all I can do right now. He cut me short yesterday telling me that he had customers to deal with. I guess I don't qualify as a customer any more.

I called Terrys earlier this week looking for some answers to a couple of questions I had regarding the Terminal Velocity. Pretty much a waste of my time. My questions didn't get answerred and at times I felt that I knew more about the product than the person on the other end of the phone. Pretty much sealed the deal that I would just suck it up and pay for dyno time to tune the PCIII when I make the next upgrades to the motor. My bike is a fuel injected evo so I'm fairly limited in my options for tuning and really thought the Terminal Velocity might be an option for me.

You more than likely talked to Jim, he is their only TVII tech Man.

To be fair, I didn't get a name. Basically, I had spent last weekend reading through posts around here about the TVII. I already have a PCIII, and I'm going to at least be adding a bolt in cam and probably doing a big bore kit with some head work. Just wanted to get an idea if the TVII might enhance the performance of my ride. I spent a couple of hundred on the dyno last summer-to dial in the true duals and intake, and I'm not really all that impressed with the results-still occasionally hesitates and decel pops. Probably need to find a better tuner if I can.
