can anyone tell me way police bags are so much cheaper than the standard ones. i know they have the puck opener on top,but do they work as well? Is it just a style thing. I'm wanting to replace my RK custom ones with some hard bags and police bags are less than half the price. I dont mind the puck I'd replace them with pop-ups any way.Anyone have some experiance with these, let me know before i blow money on some crap.
mrbuck, there is no difference except for the lid operation and related hardware.
A couple of caveats, though, before you buy police bags. One, be sure you are not buying police bags from an ABS equipped, pre-08police bike. The right hand bag from an ABS bike will have a differen bottom from a civilian or non-ABS police biketo accommodate the pre-08 ABS system and required that the portion in front of the shock be molded inward substantially causing a significant loss of storage capacity.
Two, confirm with the seller that the bags do not have any holes in them. Many police saddlebags have holes to accommodate radar wiring and other police equipment installed in the saddlebag. It's easy to plug the holes, but you don't want to buy police bags and get a surprise that there is a one inch hole in the side of thebag facing the fender.
Don't be put off by my remarks. I've had my '04 police model EG for three years and have come to strongly prefer the one-hand operation of the lid, versus the two-hand operation of the civilian version. Just avoid an ABS bag, and ask about any holes before your buy. HTH.
I stole a really nice set of police bags off eBay recently....Then I went to squadfitters.com for the popup latches. I truely prefer them over standard hard bags because of the way the lid can be opened while seated on bike.
I have 2 sets of police bags and think they are the only way to go.Just traded a new set of standard bags for the police bags. They are much easier to open especially if you are in a hurry.
because of the way they hinge, (Static rather than a double hinge) I had to raise my tourpack about an inch and due to compression on the sundowner seat, (I know , I need a diet) I can't open them when I am on the bikebut, I like em just the same.
