Ok i have 20k on the scoot and i cant figure out when to do a fork oil service. I have looked at several different service schedules, and have a lot of different mileages. I have not got the sevice manual (yet), but i have read 20k, 25k, andhd websitesays 50k. I know that doing it now wont hurt anything, but i dont want to tear the frontend apart if i am ok for a lil while.
Manual for my 06 EG says 50k but I am not going to wait that long.20k is the outside for me. The fork oil on my 02 Dyna was filthy at 20K so I started changing it every 15K.
Book says 50k now but if you saw what it looks like at 20k youll never go past 10k again. We do them at every 10k. Like dawg says update them to the late springs, damper rods, and valves or just get a set of Gold Valves and Progressive springs for them
I dont know when the MOCO started including replacing the fork oil as one of the scheduled maintenance items. Back in the day we would just leave it in there for the duration. Once the front suspension was set up to the owners liking, we would just leave the oil in there, unless there was a problem. You got to remember the UC aint no MX bike where the suspension gets a work out.
If you have the right type of container (I like the syringe type) to measure the oil very precisely.....and can leave the bike with the front end up on a jack for a while, so the old fork oil can drain completely, it aint too hard a job. Its still a PIA though.
