Saw you are new to the forum in February. Welcome from Western Canada and great lookin scoot!
Glideman on here is building an awsome system with an Alpine PDX amp and mini subs in the bags. Here is his DIY thread on The Build.
I am currently planning on modeling this (some what) with an Alpine PDX-4.100 4 channell 300 watt D typeamp and a pair of Infinity Kappas 3-way 6"x9" speakers in the bag. For bikes other than the UC, running 6x9's in the bags seems to be a semi-popular and viable solution for much better sound. I'm looking at having just under $800 into my system when done. This is for the whole 4-channell system including my Hawg Wired speakers. Not too bad.
Keep in mind, you can only get so much out of enven the highest quality 5.25" mids and the low range bass is the first tones to go when on the motorcycle. Our ears can not pick it up. It all depends on exactly what you are looking for out of your system.
Check out Glidemans thread, and you will see many other top notch audiophiles that chime in. You can pick up their threads and pics from there, since the search function is down.
Also for searching, you can hit google and type "search topic" site: hdforums.com
Replace "search topic" with your keyword for the search.
This workaround works pretty good.

I looked at all of the above, tried a couple of the options and was still disappointed. If you want the Rolls Royce system at a Cadillac price, thenyou might want to read the thread I started since installing a complete car audio system into my bike. This can run between 800.00 and 1500.00 but the system kicks some serious a$$ when done right. I think you'll learn a bit from reading up on audio here on the forums as this is a hot topic with many. Here's the link and hope this sheds some light on the topic.

I have an "03 Ultra and I replaced my speakers front and rear with Hog Tunes.
The difference is night and day!
I also bought a pair of the J&M headsets for use at hi-way and plus speeds.
Great improvement over the HD headset that came with the bike.
For another option, I bought a Garmin Zumo 550 GPS with an mp3 player.
I have it hard wired and right now
I have 2, 2 gb SD cards with 20 Cds on each with room to spare
