Well, I found that GE makes the only 881L...the halogen bulb used in the passing lamps (at least for a 2007 FLHTC). I also found out that some have used theSilverstar 880st. However, what concerns me is that the socket for the 881Lis 90 degrees, and the 880st is straight. Will the connection fit inside the passing lamp housing? There is not much room to work with, and I would like to know how difficult it was to install...Thanks!
i put the silverstars in and i love them,,,,BUT,, i did have an issue with the passing lamp upgrade. i started to get a short which would blow a fuse. come to find out the straight end on the passing bulbs were causing the problem.what i did was nip the straight plastic at the end of the bulb and put a slight bend into the wiring to take the curse off, worked like a charm.heres a link https://www.hdforums.com/m_1818002/m...tm.htm#1818002
Here's the scoop on the 88x lights ... Based on a recommendation, I did some digging to see WTH a 800 series bulb was ... the following have the same 90' mount (base) as mentioned with differing details described below ... this is only for 2006+ I think, and I'm not sure about the 2005 bikes, but the 2004 had H3 bulbs in the spots. Fwiw, I've seen yellow 88x bulbs for sale too (since I know some people like them for the see-me ability).

just did a coversion on my 08 RK to H3 blue bulbs. took alittle mod work to shim oldlenses to fit new bike but was worth the effort. also had to adjust thelight, that was more work. had to mod. 9/16 deep socket to loosen nut 100% improvement.J & P cycle sells lenses $53 plain $59 diamond 08 catolog you can get H3 bulbs anywhere any color
Ok, since I got a PM I'll reply to myself to hopefully help others too ...
... if you look at the list again ... Basically, I only listed the 90' mount bulbs (this is what the PGJ13 means) ... the straight connect ones are not listed. The second column is the wattage. The next question is if you like the stock black tip or want a clear tip? 4th column lists the bulbs proposed life. Fwiw, I have a friend that swears by the 50 watt 886's but I didn't like the lack of black tip. When I get off my butt I'm going to get 898's. They're about 50% brighter than stock and have a ~4x longer life expectancy!
Last, apparently, some of the cages use these same bulbs as fog light bulbs (and headlights in foreign countries too I think) which is why you can find them in yellow too. You may want to check your local auto-parts store (or ebay) for options.
Great idea on the H3's Jake ... and I wish I had one of those funky sockets for adjusting the running lights!
Two thoughts:
1) I like the H3 idea, did you happen to see if it were possible to just get the appropiate parts from a pre-04 Glide vs going the J&P custom route? I like easy!
2) Not to be argumentative, but I've found (around here) the 88x's are readily available too as many cages use them for fog-lights too ...
Yep. I jumped onto the "898" potential too. That 1100 hrs is WAY better life expectancy and 37.5 watts isn't so much more power draw that it wouldbe likely to overloadthe stock wiring.
