Sure, the 96" has some improvements. It also has some weaker features. One right off of the top of my head is the cast crank compared to an '02 and earlier's forged crank.
I told you about the crappy cast crank that is prone to have lots of runout and having the flywheels shift on more than a rare occasion. Another weaker feature is the crankcase bearing. The '99-'02 bikes have a stronger bearing. Read more about it here:
there is aftermarket part to replace the stock one doesnt mean the stock is weak (weaker), its a marketing strategy, maybe true that zipper product is good/better than stock, but where do u know the newer (03-up) is weaker? i dont need the zipper product marketing thing..
when u say a product is stronger/weaker than the other product, u need to make/do a survey/research to proveur statement...for example, u run the bike for xxxx hours and the one is run out and the othersdidnt run out or some thing like that...u need a authentic prove (number etc) to support ur statement.....just my opinion...not try to arguate with u....but we need a realistic fact not a marketing strategy...thanks
Why is it then that the big motors are all changinfg to a Timken bearing if it is "not" the stronger bearing? I think if i was putting another $6000 into a motor I'd want to start with making the bottem end bulletproof? Why was a chevy 4 bolt main better then a 2 bolt main?

Need I mention the drive train? Although the 08 has the Cush Drive, some consider it a bandaide.Lean tuning on the 07 produced high heat not sure about the 08 but I've heard rider's suffer the same way (makes sense - same engine). Anyone know if the mapping is the same, 07 vs. 08? There really hasn't been a lot of feedback on the 08's. Some 07 guys are reporting wet sumping problems and leaks between the tx and engine - it doesn't sound to be an epidemic though.
