Iwould like to open up intake but every thing I read sais must upgrade ECM as factory not adjustable and are already lean for EPA rules
Any thing that will help (K&n air filtre) without expence of new ECM ?

You dont have to replace the ECM. Use a brake out box such as a PCIII or the Vance and Hines. You need something if want that thing to run right. Even if you dont replace the A/C it would be a good idea.

what year is your bike? if 06 or earlier youMUST enrichthe fuel if you add a free flow air cleaner...like was said, use a "piggy back" enrichment device...they work well and you can switch right back to the stock ecu if you need to...if you have been researching the issue then you know why...just do it, itIS money well spent...I have read on other sources that 07s and 08s will adjust but are still quite lean...One particular tech said his shop sees the 07s a/f ratio at about 14.6 in stock form and after pipes and A/C they adjust some but many only get to the low 15 range...then again another owner said his bike showed 14.2 afterhis ecu adjusted for the same mods....so take your pick but remember...lean= hot!

If that's all you want to do, take it to the dealer, get an SE A/C and the stage one download and you will be happy. If you want more, you will need a tuner. SERT which programs your ECM or Piggyback: FP or PC which works by changing the signals to your ECM. Good luck.
