I'm in the middle of removing the remains of the Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage II, i now know the culprit--the F'ing screws are hollowthey broke off in the intake.

I'm installing the SE intake now

ORIGINAL: lkr0

I feel your pain, riding down hwy 20 in ATL two bolts keeping cover on snapped--the other bolt just broke -- everthing except the backing plate is hitting me in the leg at 75mph---had to ride home without an air cleaner
ORIGINAL: Monstermile

I shoulda oughta known better. About 4 years ago I had one of the first generation Ness Billet Suckers. Went through three backplates before getting one that didn't crack. Then there was the fiasco with the banjo bolts needing to have something pressed into them. Can't remember exactly what that deal was but it delayed me two weeks.

So here I order a Big Sucker for my 08 SG. Only because they have the chrome backplate and the SE doesn't yet. And no K&N filter available yet. When I opened the box there was a package of three studs and a note saying that the studs in the stand-offs had to be replaced with these longer ones. No biggie. I swap them out and install the stand-offs. Well I go to tighten one with very little force and the damn stud snapped right off. WTF!!!!! So I have one end stuck on the TB and a useless stand-off. Which basically means everything is on hold until I can get hold of Ness and get replacements. I swear I will never buy another Ness product again. I know many people have had great luck with them. But two for two has left a real bad taste in my mouth.

Does anyone know if the stand-offs from the 08 Screamin Eagle kit would work with the BS????

Only problem I've had with the BS is the breather bolts backing out. Did the loctite blue thing, but still leary on overtightening.

WhenS&S comes out with a retro teardrop for the 07+ Delphi, the BS is Ebay meat...

For those of you looking to buy an AC, I know that Jamie at Fuel Moto is working on his own variation of the SE AC using a cleanable element. I'll probably be getting one soon and will write it up soon thereafter. Jamie is not happy with the construction of the K&N AC which uses a quirky rubber velocity stack that is haphazardly sandwiched between to metal plates. It is difficult to install and prone to working loose. That's what I have now, and in addition to addressing that problem the new AC will work with both round- and football-style AC covers.

I was very disapointed in the ness big sucker kit. The threads on the cyl head bolts were razor sharp, there was welding slag on a nut inside the filter, the backing plate did not line up to the cyl head holes, they didnt send me the o rings in the box. HD an doherty are better products for this one. I agree withPHIL M.In hindsight I wish I went with one of the above.

I just installed my Fuelmoto a/c whick uses the SE backing plate. real good deal. super easy install. No more K&N oil leak. THe SE has the vent tubes that puts the oil from the beathers back into the intake, much better then the side if the bike.
For sale on K&N 3909 any takers?

I installed a Big Sucker Stage 1 last year on my 07 - Install went smooth, all parts in the box - instructions could've been better - but I'm into wrenchin and figured it out.
Sorry to hear about all of the problems you guy's are having with these.
Its good to vent - I'll keep an eye on mine - Thanks for the heads up!

Jaime at Fuel Moto got it right and his kit is cheaper than the SE kit. He also sends you a much better filter that can be cleaned.

I purchased a set of Ness Mirrors two years ago. They lasted 20 minutes as the screws broke off at the base.

That was my only and last Ness purchase. If you are going to charge me $150.00 for mirrors, guess it would be too much to expect quailty.
