Default Ultra on pickup

I have to load my ultra on pickup truck by myself. I have two 8 ft. ramps. I am thinking of using a winch and making
somekind of frame to put bike in and have wheels fit into the ramp. Does this make any sense? What I am wondering
is if anyone has any ideas/plans they have used to load an Ultra by themselves safely?

discountramps.com

They have wide curved ramps that make loading a breeze, and safe. Only way to go for a pick-up truck.

I guess if you could get someone to follow you in the truck, look for loading dock ramps, rail car ramps, anything that will allow you to drive to the height of the back of the truck. There's a rail ramp 1/4-mile from my house that I use for this.
Another technique is to back the truck into a drainage ditch--my mother-in-law has a good yard for this, then ride the bike into the truck. Of course it works best if you are sure you'll have enough power to get out of the ditch. I had an F350 Dually with Powerstroke.

Good luck!

The key to loading a bike into a picup truck is a good little hill or incline. You put the bike at the top and the truck at the bottom so it is a straight shot on the ramp instead of trying to push the bike UP a ramp.

I'm always looking for new projects to build.
Condor has this loader for wreckers, and I thought I would try to fabricate a small version of it to use for a pickup truck.
You would still need ramps, but you would be able to load it by yourself.

Hell Mickey, If you are gonna buy something like that unit on ebay, get something with bigger wheels and call it a trailer. Loading that thing into the back of a PU or the bagger itself is not worth the aggravation. Load the bagger into/onto a trailer and save the PU bed for coolers.

I'd have to agree. I have the Condor Cycle Loader. I love it, but I fool with some bikes that won't move at times, so I have a valid use for the added expense. It's more than paid for itself. I also have a winch on my trailer for when I don't want to take my roll back. Most of the time if you beat the bushes, you can find a little 4X8 for around 500.00. I use the hell out of mine for a lot of other stuff besides bikes. By the time you factor in time, cost of materials, or cost of a lift/loader if you just buy one, not to mention the extra risk of loading and unloading out of a truck. You end up spending as much or more in the long run. The extra risk psuhed me to spend the coin after I watched another dealer trying to load (into a pick up with a nice ramp) a bike he just bought at the auction. The risk being after the bike fell off the ramp and pinned him under it, several of us ran over to pick it up. He ended up with about a grand damage to the bike, 6 pins in his leg, and a whole riding season shot because he was on crutches. I'd hate to think of how it would have went if we had not been there loading our own bikes, and weren't there to pick it up off of him. The Condor alone is over 350.00 before shipping. Add a little more and just get a trailer would be my opinion.
