I just installed some fairing lowers on my Roadglide, and today has been the warmest yet, with a temp running in the mid 70's. These lowers were cooking my legs! So, heres the deal. I ran fairing lowers on my Roadking some 70K miles and while they were warm in the summer the temp from those on 100degree days was equal to what these on my Roadglide offered up in the 70 degree day. A note on the installation. Step one. (Remove the air baffle from the lower triple clamp.Thiswill improve airflow and rider comfort) I followed that instruction and removed what I thought was to be an air baffle, however the repair manual doesnt refer to an air baffle, but a shield. So my question is to anyone running fairing lowers on a Roadglide did you remove anything and whats been your experience with temp in running these?
Road Glide fairings are not vented. Check out Hoppe Industries, they make vents for non vented lowers. I had their vents on my Road King Classic and they work great!
I can't seem to get the pictures to upload but I have lowers on my 04 Road Glide and only felt the added heat on a few days when the temps got 95+ degrees.
Even then it wasn't anything I couldn't deal with or was over whelming.
I didn't take anything off either. The baffle is still in place.
All in all I think thepositives way out weight the negatives. At least for me, anyway.
When I installed mine,I followed the instructions and removed the air baffle.I just reinstalled it a week ago and honestly could not tell any difference.I reinstalled thinking it would direct more air to the motor.
I added lowers to my RG this winter; haven't ridden in summer temps yet so I don't know about that; I did not remove the fork baffle. I may if it's too hot this summer. I'd like to keep the lowers on for rain protection during the summer rain storms. I think it will be OK unless you do a lot of city driving.
I got an 06 RG and I waited a year before I put the lowers on my bike. Wish I hadn't waited so long. Living in AZ the temps really get up there. The lowers keep the road grit off my legs. The engine temp is ok as long as I'm moving. Hey if I wanted a cool running bike I would have gotten a G"Wing.
I swapped the stock baffel out for a chrome too
