Default Rear (3rd) Stabilizer.. Do they work ??

I have a 2001 FLHTC that really doesn't handle very well. Any thoughts here ? The rear stabilizer sounds like just what I need. Do they work ? Which one is best......

I have a friend who has one on his RG and swears by it, as to which one is best, who knows. Those who have one will tell you that the one they bought is the best.

Which one is best? I dont htink anyone knows for sure.

Lots of folks like the True-track, there is also a following for the Sta-Bo, and Ride Str8. I think there is one other but have forgotten the name.

I just ordered the Sta-Bo. I dont normally push my bike anywhere near its handling limits. I prefer relaxed easy goin cruises, but will be headed down to ride the Dragon in about 6 weeks.

I will post my experience with the Sta-Bo after it is installed and riden a bit. There are several other threads about these devices you can check out.

https://www.hdforums.com/m_284107/tm.htm (read posts 9 & 10 about Sta-Bo)

This is a good write up for Ride Str8

Hope this helps ya

Yes, they work, and all work in the same basic manner. The main difference is the mounting location and method, and based on this I chose the Ride Str8. Here's my write-up from last summer:

Being that your bike is 7 years old...I would start at the bike end....fork oil service, Steering neck bearing service/adjustment, rear swingarm bushings, front engine mount, engine alignment, shock pressure, tire condition/pressureand things like that...

I'm convinced they work, but first make certain all is right with your bike.....Check swingarm mounts, shocks, tires and pressure, steering head bearing and engine/rear wheel alignment

THEN add the stabilizer of your choice.

I would agree with the above two posts for sure. Then when all is known to be correct and the bike still exhibits undesireable handling traits do some research on the available products and make an informed decision on which system to put on your bike.

Thanks for all the feedback..... When I bought the bike in April '07, it had 6400 miles on it. Everything SHOULD be OK..I changed ALL the fluids, ect., including fork oil. Checked everything out. Guess I just got spoiled from the handling of my '89 FLT. I miss that bike....... I noticed one part of stabilizer mounts on back of tranny(oil) pan. Where does other end mount to ? Does the stabilizer bolt to a mount that is bolted to the hex nut that is factory welded on the frame next to foot board mount? Wouldn't there be too much torque pressure on the cast oil pan ? Anyone have a pic of how it bolts to frame ? I'm a machinist by trade and could easily make this stuff....... see where I'm going with this ? Again, thanks......

DId a good job lisetning with TC47 and Yodaddy's post. See where I'm going with this. That bike should not handle badly and you shouldn't need the extra stabilizer with a stock engine. I bet the engine alignment or rubber mounts 2-rear, 1- front are in need of replacing. That bike should make you forget about the 89 FLT. Trust me I had ridden on for a year. I would do a good check of those before spending more money on something you really didn't need. Those were developed to reduce the push in cornering above 80 mph and the wobbble created from increased engine pulses (added HP). they did not beef up the rear swingarm and mount until 2003, so you might benefit some, but I would check for othere issues first. I like the way you cap'ed SHOULD. You know what they say "SHOULDA, COULDA WOULDA."
