SERT vs Power Commander
IMO the SERT is more tunable, but my biggest issue with it is,
YOU CAN"T DO IT YOURSELF!!!
I hate that s..t.
PC3 I will take 95% tuned and the satisfaction of $500 in beer and good times - and that is only for each tune (which you will need with each new mod)
The SERT is much more complicated and was specifically designed for major engine modifications and is used by people that demand the most of their bike, like drag racing. Without some type of system to read your AFR, you will have a hell of a time using a SERT to make any adjustments, the fact that they make youbuy a SERT just to put a map in the ECM is crazy. In my opinion, they have done this just so they can screw the customer. They should be able to put a basic map for widely used exhaust systems in the bike for about $50 and that is just for the 30 minutes of labor that it would take to push the bike in, take the seat or side panel off, plug it in, flash the ECM and take it for a test ride. If they put the pipes and Air Cleaner on for you, they should just do this for free, in my opinion.
I installed Rinehart True Dual to my FLHRSIS. Which should I use, Power Commander or the SERT?
Regarding the comment about PCIII's and gas mileage, the mileage is solely dependent on the tuning whether you own a PCIII or SERT. If you tune for cooling in the cruise range your mileage will suffer, and for me there's a compromise between the two. My mileage is about as good as I think this engine is capable of, frankly, and will gladly compare it to anyone with SERT installed. It varies from about 40mpg in city with numerous cold starts to 50mpg at moderate speeds on the backroads.
Fuel Moto tunes for about 13.5:1 A/F in the cruise range, and about 13.0:1 at higher TP's. I like mine at 14.0-14.5:1 in the cruise range, which improves mileage greatly. Adding a cooler and using synthetic oil keeps peak oil temps under control, even in summer traffic.
