Here is Utah, its heat and dust (alkaline dust). Iwas cleaning and treating regularly with the HD provided leather conditioner to start, but have switched to the Fox Creek conditioner (Montana Pitch Blend) because it seems to attract dirt less. 5K on the bike... bags still look good, though the lids have developed some waves (plastic backing). I love the looks of the leather, but am on the lookout for hard bags for the future.
Love my 04 RK Custom. The only thing that irritates me is that theystopped building them.
I did change the seat and added the hard bags because the leather bags didn't lock. What good is a bag if it doesn't lock?
The whitewalls are a PITA.
The looks are why it's mine and the cruise is really worth having.
You can get locks that work on the bagsfor either the RKC or Custom. Doc Bailey's keeps the black looking good and works on your boots too.
Did the seat switch (sundowner) and bars too (all wires inside the bars - clean),also braided cables, front and rear turn signals, relocated lic. plate.
Never have worried about the spoke wheels and flats - probably should but have the towing on my ins.
Do a search here on IDS. It involves the rear belt pulley on 07's and 08's. From what is said here it's almost a must have. Mine being an 05 I don't pay much attention to 07 & 08 problems.
cons: I agree with what everyone else has said, but I also don't like speedometer/dash lights on the gas tank makes you look down to check speed.
I had them change my wheels when I bought it and now wish I had the hard bags. Maybe should have bought the standard or a SG, Oh well it is still an awesome bike.
You said don't mention the bars and seat, so I won't. LOVE my RK Classic! The versatility is probably my favorite aspect. Windshield on/off, backrest and luggage rack removal is quick and easy. As far as audio, I have two speakers that are 28 inches long that put out the most beautiful music you can ask for! My wife calls them "mufflers." (She dosn't get it) Seriously, I sometimes use my MP3 with earbuds on long trips. All in all, a very comfortable scoot. I decided on the Classic because it reminded me of a 50's era hot rod; Wide whites, spokes, etc. The cruise controlwillSPOIL you. Only dislikes I can think of are the aformentioned spokes are a pain to clean, but thats the price paid to look good, and no locks on the bags. (Will probably look into the locks on eGidegoodies) Now, about the seat and bars...
