Can someone tell me what kind of noise a motor makes when it is running lean? I have the backfire on quick de-cel, but still need to know if what I am hearing is lean or just V twin rattle, what ever that is

V-Twin rattle? Never heard of that. I wouldn't try to diagnose a lean condition based on exhaust popping alone. Take a look at your plugs and see how white they are. Is the bike stock?

I guess I'm so frustrated I forgot, 02 police Road King, stock except for SE slip ons. it started out in Florida, wound up in Kentucky and is now in Phoenix. The gas here is 91 octane for premium. it just doesn't seem to have run right since arrival a year and a half ago.

Sounds to me that you need to have the bike tuned on a dyno, and orremaped.Sometimes
when the pipes are changed along with an air cleaner changemotor will run lean until it is retuned. Is your Injected or carbureted???
